Best of January 2018

Nice to start the new year with a super glove. I was surprised this one even lasted 10 minutes. It's a Reach model KG drab buckskin sewn web glove.
The KG started as a King Patent model back in 1914. This glove is probably circa 1924-25 due to the orientation of model number, "Professional Model" and logo in the pocket. No King Patent on this one but still retains the laced heel. It's nice to see a well used top model survivor in great shape. Lucky winner!

A 1970's MacGregor model KCX kangaroo hide glove sold for $400. Always popular and in nice shape. MacGregor sure went "balls to the wall"
with the amount of lacing on their later gloves

A mid 60's Spalding "Roger Maris" Personal Model 42-217 sold for $395. A popular model in fantastic condition. Another one in lesser condition just sold for $257. I personally like the original Maris 42-201 "Full Control Palm" model. That's a rare one!

A 1940's Honus Wagner Brand glove sold for $75. The glove shows some wear, missing the tunnel webs. It sure has a distinctive double button wrist strap.
Nice patch.

One of my favourite logos. Still can't tell if Honus is riding a bat or not. In my mind he always will be. Kind of like how hockey players ride their sticks after a goal.

Here's a higher quality version of the logo on a matchbook.

An interesting auction. An early crescent pad catchers mitt sold for $293. The front looked just great, the back not so much. The mitt featured a riveted strap joining the thumb to body.

A 1940's Rawlings "Bill Brubaker" model G480 sold for $250. There's a whole bunch of these uncatalogued models that show up. I don't know what that's about.

A 1930's Reach model glove sold for $208. This is a rare one with the unique webbing extending to the middle finger. Not listed as
the "Sam Hale" model but it's right there near the heel of the glove.

A circa 1920 Wilson model 605 "Babe Ruth" glove sold for $1000. This one shows a lot of wear but miraculously the cloth patch and markings in the pocket are really strong. It' a rare model.
