A stellar D&M G75 "Wapiti" model glove sold for $1792. It's from the Roger Bresnahan estate.I like the taped web!

A 1930's Spalding "Babe Ruth" glove sold for $325. No indication of model number but a decent glove that sold pretty quickly.

A sewn web D&M glove sold for $350. It shows a fair amount of wear but has a cool Rochester tag in addition to the D&M patch.

A Sears J.C. Higgins sewn web glove with matching box sold for $182. I think the glove is marked "Professional Model". The graphics on the box are pretty cool.

A 1930's Spalding buckle back glove sold for $168. The glove shows wear and has several tears and piercings in the leather. Its main saving grace is the faint "Lewis Hack Wilson" endorsement along the pinky.

the 1930-40's Honus Wagner brand glove talked about earlier on the forum sold for a best offer in the neighborhood of $168. The glove shows quite a bit of wear but has an interesting wrist strap. The wide wrist straps became popular in the mid to late 30's with versions by OK Mfg., Reach and the Ken Wel double button models.

A 1920's D&M sewn web glove sold for a best offer on ebay. Low end model, cloth piping, palm only liner, no welted seams. On the plus side it shows almost no wear and is in stellar condition having an intact patch and strong pocket stampings.

A circa 1930 Reach glove sold for $179. It has an interesting and intricate web design and was one of the better models in the RWD catalog at the time. Too bad it is in somewhat rough condition, the leather being stiff, dried out and cracking. No markings on the front that I could discern.

A 1930's Ken Wel "Harry Heilman" glove sold for $200. It is tagged and retailed by the Schultz Novelty Co. of New York. Pretty nice overall condition.

A 1940's Rawlings "Bill Doak" model H glove sold for $154. It looks to be in near mint condition. The lack of a cloth patch and the plain steel wrist strap button may indicate a wartime issue.

Of course at first glance we are all thinking handball glove. The tornado palm and buckle back is very distinctive. The piping is what is throwing me. The seller says he was told it was a brakeman's glove but he disagrees. If it is in fact period, or 1880's and a brakeman's glove, then cool!!! Those are the types of "workman's" gloves that were dual purposed for baseball. Those types of gloves are the earliest forms of baseball glove. Remember this? http://www.baseballglovecollector.com/glove-terminology-ask-the-experts-part-1/

Also, remember the Morphy's auction of the motorman or gripman glove/mitt from last month? The actual patent said it can also be used for Base Ball. That's cool. I dig that. Maybe both were used as both a brakeman and baseball glove. If so, I would categorize it as a workmans glove. The question remains though, if this one is in fact a handball glove. The piping doesn't look right to me to be 1880's but that doesn't mean anything. The distinctive lower front edge should be able to match up to a catalog.

Mike, put on your research hat. I'll do the same and I'll meet you at the finish line.

Oh man, the first big controversy of 2016! I couldn't find a definitive catalog illustration but here is a pair of Spalding handball gloves circa 1926, same tornado palm stitching, same curve to the lower wrist opening, same flat sewn piping, same buckle design w/tab release and same finger vent holes.

Good job Mike. You beat me to it. I looked at a lot of catalogs and a lot of handball gloves and the one you found sure fits the bill. I couldn't find the extended rounded heel but found a bunch of others. Here's a similar D&M from 1923.

I wonder why the seller ended it. Hope it wasn't due to the previous posts as we were just in research mode but I really hope someone didn't talk him into ending it early.
