A 1920-30's D&M model 709 catchers mitt sold for $1314. It's from the Roger Breshnahan estate. A really stunning mitt!

Circa 1970 Rawlings "Johnny Bench" model HOH mitt sold for $379. Looks to be mint condition. I didn't think it would last long even with the $40 shipping charge.

From the opposite end of the spectrum is this TOC crescent pad mitt. It seems in decent shape and sold pretty quickly for $79.

A 1920-30's Wilson extended pocket glove sold for $167 on ebay. The glove shows a lot of wear but still is in reasonable shape. The markings are very light in the pocket but possibly could be figured out. The camera flash wasn't helpful. Always seems to flatten out details and leave a glare.

Same glove! At the time, the owner had asked me what value I'd put on this. I told him $300-$350. A couple of days ago he contacted me and asked if $325 was a good offer. I didn't realize that he had it in eBay!

A 1940's ambidextrous glove sold for $189. Seems mostly intact but needs some work. An interesting curiosity of glove design.

A 1940's Nokona "Joe Jackson" "The Latch" model sold for $152. Overall in decent shape with the stampings on the front pretty strong.

A 1925-30 Wilson-Western 3 finger "Major League" model glove sold for $410. Shows some wear and tear. The model number H332 may indicate the glove was made for another retailer.

A 1929-30 Spalding "Stanley Harris" model glove sold for $100. A top of the line glove in its day. This one also shows some wear and tear although the markings are strong on the front and the cloth patch is intact. Seems like a bargain compared to the Wilson model. Just goes to show the popularity of the 3 finger gloves

What are the key factors in identifying/dating the Bench HOH?

The model RL-1 was the most expensive Bench model in the mid 70's. It is a Fastback design. the HOH model was just a little less money. It was a Wingtip model. Both were "Heart of Hide" mitts. The Bench mitt from November 2015 was a real nice one. With gloves/mitts of the modern era, condition is paramount. It's why that one brought good money for the seller. An almost exact mitt sold in July 2016 for $177. Also, near mint but a flaw in the cloth patch hurt the price. Buy a copy of Joe Philips "Vintage Baseball Glove Catalog Source Book" for more info. Also join http://www.baseballglovecollector.com for access to glove catalog photos of many brands through the years. The "Modern Glove" website might also be of help for the era you have interest.
