An interesting and early turn of the century catchers mitt sold for $138 on ebay. The mitt has the early style buckle web directly on top of the perimeter belt and the front and back panels are pieced together with sewn sections rather than one piece. The front has the pocket reinforcement to protect the stitching underneath. The back is pretty much a disaster which justifies the low price. I see some original leather folded over the back and there may be a thumb stall under the funky repair job. I would like to see the mitt after a restoration if the winner reads this forum.

A very nice 1915-25 D&M glove sold on ebay for $275. The black piping, lining, patch and 1" web are a nice contrast to the white suede type leather.

A unusual red leather Spalding 1" web glove sold for $150 on ebay. The cloth patch, leather piping and lining seem to be intact and the glove is in overall good shape.

A very nice circa 1920 Rawlings 1" web glove sold for $87 on ebay. Not a glove that comes up on ebay very often. This model WH is well used but is all intact with no noticeable tears, good cloth patch and lining. Nice markings in the pocket.

early 1900's Spalding fielders mitt sold for $75 on ebay. Overall in nice shape with some wear to the cloth patch. Great vintage look on the back with the finger stall divisions and the grommet web

A 1940's Rawlings "Bill Doak" Model H glove sold for $50 on ebay. In super condition, the BIN price was 1/4 the price of similar Doak gloves presently on ebay. A lucky buyer!

A 1915-25 reach 1' web glove sold for $287 on ebay. Supple black leather with a great cloth patch. Lining and white leather piping are in pretty good shape

Another Reach glove, this one an earlier full web model only brought $78 on ebay. The condition of this glove wasn't quite as strong as the model above. It had a small sewn repair to a finger stall, but the overall condition of the leather, lining and cloth patch was good. Seems like a pretty good buy in my opinion.

Mike,

Great job in finding and describing these old gloves. I enjoy your commentary on them. By the way I was the one who ended up buying the cool tri-color (black glove, brown thumb and cream piping and web and liner) old time full sewn web Reach glove with the funky spider/diamond cut web a few weeks ago. It may be a period alteration by someone but I have not ruled out it being a die-cut stamped out web either. Either way, it sits on the top shelf of the glove loft with some other cool funky webs.

You were right on with your description that it turned out to be a nice high quality glove. It reminds me of some of the youth webs that have the die-cut spider web stamped into the web, but this one is a large 10 1/8 by 9 inch glove and very nice leather. I have seen about 3 adult size spider webs that were die-cut. Rob Mucha has one that I think is a Ken=Wel and mine is an adult Tryon glove and I think Bret Lowman has an adult spider web too and I forgot the brand.

This old Reach glove may very well have been cut out by an individual and if so they did a very nice job on the cutting and if that be the case it sure looks to be a period alteration on the web. I would love to find an old catalog that talked about or showed pics of these old spider web gloves or any die-cut webs even the youth die-cut webs. If you run across a catalog pic sometime or patent, please share the pic with me, as I would love to see it.

Mike, Oops, I forgot to say I am not certain of the brand of my old glove. At first I thought it to be a Reach and for some reason that stuck in my mind when writing the last post. I am just not certain about the brand.

I remember the glove you mentioned. A few of the youth models did have the die cut web. I thought yours was a high quality adult glove. I tracked it for quite a while on ebay because it was interesting.

The KenWel three finger model glove sold for $910 on ebay. The endorsement may be "Lou Fonseca" in the pocket. There is a similar model at http://www.baseballglovecollector.com This ebay glove is a beauty.

A 1920's Stall & Dean glove sold for $380 on ebay. The glove is in good shape with a great cloth patch. Not sure if a tunnel web is missing. Looks like a shoe lace replacement

A circa 1915 Stall & Dean catchers mitt sold for $87 on ebay. I've owned this model and it features an early riveted wrist opening and the quick release buckle. The seller did not capture the arrow head end to the wrist strap in his ebay photo. If his camera was an inch or two left or right the feature would have been more evident and I believe the mitt would have cleared $100+

A circa 1922 Rawlings "Bill Doak" model glove sold for $227 on ebay. The glove saw some play but the leather is still supple and the two cloth patches are still fully intact. The original white inner lining is evident. Looks like it will clean up nicely
