Best of February 2011

Postby mikesglove » February 1st, 2011, 3:17 am

As Greg mentioned, there have been some nice new listings in the past couple of days on ebay. Todee2000 has posted some vintage gloves and there have been a number of individual postings worth watching. There is one confusing post of a Stall & Dean/ Lowe & Campbell mitt by hammersportsrelics. The D&M Sisler mitt of Hammontree3152 is the big one right now. I'm curious how high it will go. The D&M Sisler reminded me to check back to the MrMitt's "hot stove trades" post to admire the Rawlings Sisler mitt and was disappointed to see all the pictures deleted. It was one of the nicest collection of gloves and mitts in a forum posting in a while. Too bad!

there is a new listing for a "Rainbow" glove on ebay. May be a misspelling. I am curious if anyone has heard of that brand? It is a pretty nice glove in its own right. Looks to have a button snap closure of the wrist strap. http://cgi.ebay.com/1930s-Rainbow-Baseball-Glove-w-tunnel-loop-/300520618585?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item45f86cba59

Really stunning Spalding "Babe Ruth" glove from hammontree3152 with a quick ebay BIN at $775. Looks like it saw a little play but still in pristine condition!

Strange. In the last week I searched eBay for Bob Feller gloves three or four times, but never saw that Wilson. Must have been a quick BIN! I was surprised to see not one, but two, Feller buckle-backs up for sale.

I didn't see it, but was glad to hear that another forum member did and snapped it up. Joe's Source Book shows it listed for just one year,1939, so it is a tough one to find. Looks to be in great shape with nice stampings, too. Great pick up johnmilner! Well, let's see if it works again. Gee, I've never seen a Wilson 900 Bob Feller PM. Sure would be nice if one showed up on ebay tomorrow around 4 pm CST. :)

Matt of ebay user id mghpro just posted some vintage items including a re-listing of a top of the line Reach "Eddie Collins" model. I always liked this model because of the distinctive back. Nice patch also!

Another mint Sonnett glove on ebay. This time a "Dick Donovan" model with the unusual joined first and second finger forming an extended pocket. A beautiful glove but couldn't make it over the hump of a $195MB. Great markings in the pocket!

Hi Mike,

Cool funky sonnet glove. I have one of those vintage sonnet gloves with the lace in the middle of the fat finger too. LOL They are cool.

Mike I noticed you had a very cool buckleweb Stall and Dean that you were showing on another thread. Very sweet buckleweb. Love it. By chance did you get that glove from Jerry (mr. mitt). I was thinking he has(had) one like it?

Hi Dave, It was the other way around with Jerry and the S&D glove. I picked it up at an antique fair 12-13 years ago and put it on my AOL webpage for sale and Jerry thankfully recognized what a prize it was. I was happy to see the 1921 catalog listing for it recently as a $12 glove. Kind of reinforced the scarcity and quality of that particular model. I'm actually not sure who owns it now.

Mike, I thought I recognized the old S and D glove. You made one great find when you got it at a antique fair. Looks like Jerry had a good eye too. LOL

The S and D gloves usually seem to be quite nice old timer gloves.

We have a bunch of ice and a little snow in Olney today. Glad I live way south of Chicago which may get near 2 ft. of snow.

From the ebay bargain bin, what looks to be a "Dazzy Vance" style glove for $20.50. Not a good picture at all, but I noticed the forward facing finger seams, the double finger lacing and the hint of the strap between the thumb and forefinger. If the winner is a forum member, I would be curious to see a post of the back of the glove.

In retrospect, I wish I had bought more from you at the time! I sold the S&D buckle-web fielder's mitt back when I liquidated my colection about 10 years ago, but was very thankfully able to reacquire it about a year and a half back. Out of all the gloves I used to own that I longed to have again, the 0977 was at the top of the list. It has everythign going for it, but the most important is that it feels so good on your hand. It's my go to glove when I want to put something on!

Jerry, your buckleweb (that mike used to own) is a real beauty!. I have always that that was the coolest of gloves. Granted that tornado palm is an awesome glove you got too but man that buckleweb S and D is a terrific piece of old leather. I am just thankful I ended up getting a old timer buckleweb, buckleback cp from JD a few years back on a trade. He got something he wanted and I got something I wanted and we both were happy. Gotta love those type of trades. :D
