Good thing I don't bet on how these finish. I figured that HP box and glove to end much higher than that.
Babe Ruth HR Special ended with a $500 best offer:

I also expected the price to be much higher. Such a beautiful glove and box. Ink on a glove can be a "deal breaker" as Liz Lemon would say.

Count me in the column for thinking the HP would have gone higher - as far as I know, this is the first HP box to surface. I think the ink adds some charm to the glove - it's very ornate and neatly done.

I was the high bidder on this for most of the week it was up. Yesterday when I got outbid I thought about going forward but a couple things kept telling me no. First thing was the box worth the money? Then was the glove? My answer to both was no. The best thing about the package was the patch, it is a beauty. But to display it for the patch, the name, though nicely done stood out more than anything and that is the reason I let it go

A few months ago we had an "unknown endorsor" glove come up with a box for the first time and we all were surprized that it went for only $275.00. Yesterday a dealer in Cooperstown put up about 8 mid range gloves with boxes all with BIN of $250 or so.

Maybe this is what the price is on these gloves should be.

I guess I was expecting more spirited bidding with the box being so scarce. As Murph pointed out scarcity doesn't always generate big bids. Rare as it is, the box is kind of a plain Jane. I think the glove is beautiful even with the ink, though. Also agree that for some collectors any ink at all is the dreaded deal breaker. I didn't bid on it (budget constraints; actually forcing myself to stick to a budget  already going through painful withdrawals) but I probably would have bid around what it ended at and still have been surprised that it wasn't bid up another $100+. Maybe rarity is overrated and condition even on a common glove (thinking of that McCovey Sonnett) underrated? Then again this is ebay where there just is no figurin' sometimes.

Here is another quick BIN, within one-half hour of ebay listing. Nice Spalding full web with wool lining. Sold for $126. Quite a bargain.

Late late 30's or early 40's Nick Etten "mint" glove went for $326.00. Slight problem on the "mint" side. There is a small hole or cigarette burn right below the name.

Ya, but according to another ebay listing "Foxx is on more Hall of Fame want list than any other player! Unquestionably the most sought after player model glove!"

Huh? Anyway, I won that unique strap Ruth Homerun Special and can't wait to see it. It will be the bookend to my righty which is my favorite Ruth glove.
