I'm not sure of the timing of the Legendary Auction on the heels of the National Convention. A lot of nice gloves changed hands at the Convention and went into collections or subsequently resold on ebay these last 2 weeks. The 20% buyers premium at Legendary is also a real killer. The Gehrig mitt cost the buyer close to one thousand dollars extra in fees. When I sold an item through "Oregon Trails" years ago, I as a seller was dinged for a 10% hammer fee. Now it is reversed and the buyer pays the fee. I suppose it is a way for the auction houses to attract more memorabilia from collections.

I think prices like these discourage most collectors, except those with very deep pockets. I often wonder who can afford to spend $1,000+ on a single glove.

I thought the Connie Mack sold for a decent price since likely it was a one of a kind. I hope someday another Paul Waner glove will surface as that is the first one I have seen for sale since I started collecting

I felt exhilarated by all the Legendary gloves for sale in one day even though I didn't get one. Some of the early gloves were really cool to see. One doesn't see these examples very often, especially the gloves and mitts with boxes. To put it in perspective a little, here is a sampling of some great gloves from ebay at bargain prices, gloves I wish I had a second chance on for my collection:

Most of the majors charge a vig on both ends, seller and buyer 15 percent or more

Thanks for posting those ebay bargains, Mike. Nice to see some good gloves that a collector on a budget can afford. Of course, I also marvel at the great John Graham gloves and the prices they realize. I've never broken the $1000 barrier and probably never will. Then again, I know I have at least 20 gloves that I paid around $50 for and that doesn't seem extravagant to me at all. But it's the same $1000. Just a matter of perspective? And 19 fewer gloves.

OK. I feel better now. Maybe it was just a bout of sour grapes or something. Mike's sampling of bargain beauties has helped rekindle my enthusiasm. Okdoak is right. It is a matter of perspective. I've probably spent over $1000 in my 2 years of collecting. And while none of my gloves are in the upper echelon of collectible gloves, I'm pretty happy with most of my finds. Perhaps I need to broaden my Ebay search parameters in order to find more of those bargain beauties. Thanks guys.

I'm half way there. I only want to pull the trigger on $500 gloves. Then i realize that my wife would kill me, but i have bought 10 gloves on average of $50 and she doesn't say a word.(YET)

A Ken-Wel zipper back catchers mitt sold for $174. The mitt is in decent shape with the zipper still intact. The cloth patch is still very nice. I owned one of these a long time ago. I like the area to the left of the zipper where there is a row of holes to lace and cinch up to adjust the fit on the hand.

A circa 1900's crescent pad catchers mitt sold for $390 on ebay. Large size and high quality. It has an interesting woven heel lacing and reinforced pocket

A 1930's "Stuffy McGinnis" base mitt sold for $187 on ebay. The mitt is in great shape inside and out with excellent markings on the face.

From the same seller, I bid on and won the Earl Sheely Spalding LG base mitt last evening. This model in one of my favorites. This will be my third of these and it looks to be an upgrade from the other two, one of which I've sold. Simply a great example of what "top-of-the-line" is all about. Superb glove. I can't wait to receive it. I'll post other pics when I receive it.
