An unusual Ripon brand ambidextrous glove sold for $1213 on ebay. Looks to be in good shape. With a little cleaning and relacing, it's nicer than the Ripon model that sold at Legendary Auctions for $2500.

The 1940's Rawlings Red Rolfe rolled lace web in super condition would give the ambi glove a run for it's money. I would personally take the RR any day over the "Land Crab"

I feel fortunate to have owned the Ripon land crab ambi once upon a time and it was very cool. My memory does not work as well as it should but I think I may have traded the novelty ambi for the buckleweb, buckleback crescent padded glove I used on the front cover of my glove book.

I could not afford to collect both the novelty gloves (ambidextrous, pita, tornado palm etc) and decided to go the more standard gloves in glove evolution. I am fortunate to have a Rawlings RR rolled lace web in my collection and it too is cool. While it may not be the greatest of condition, historically it is one cool vintage glove and is proudly displayed on the glove shelf.

I traded my ambi to JD as he was heavier into novelty gloves than myself and it seemed to fit his collection better. My collection got a turbo boost with the trade being I ended up with a cool buckleweb, buckleback. Fun trade and it seemed to serve a good purpose for both of us.

Either glove is great to me and they each have their uniqueness and cool qualities.

I love my ugly ambi. Yep, I got mine from Dave in trade for a buckle back, buckle web asbestos crescent (cover of book), Rainey Trap Web Spalding Pinky Whitney, Harry Gumbert Ken Wel Double Button and Vance Style Rip Radcliffe. We valued the Ambi at about $1,200 way back in 2008 when we did the trade. I thought this one went about right. I think the ink on back and missing web lace stopped it from going higher.

I am glad you keep a record of your trades. LOL Man, I could not remember what all was in the trade mix but I thought for sure it was the buckleweb and those other gloves I got in the trade certainly added to my collection interest too.

I agree with you that the trade was good for both of us and I am glad you got the ambi for your novelty gloves collection.

I figure if there is anyone in our hobby that keeps account of what glove is traded for what glove(s) it would be you.

Hey Dave, yep, I keep meticulous records of everything, every glove, every trade, cost, basis, etc. in Excel. That's the anal accountant/finance numbers guy thing in me. Can't help it. If I remember right, you wanted the Rainey almost as much as the buckle web. Checked a couple off your list with that trade. You were the king of Raineys. I might have caught you recently

Even from the ebay pics, it is easy to see the glove was lightly played and would clean up to be a beauty.

So, I still have a few gloves that catch your interest. I just went through my glove book to see what Nokonas might be of interest to you. I am actually thinking it may just be one Nokona, the Model G25 Larry Bettencourt glove. You know JD I would like to trade that one to you but, I still have not found a glove with that webstyle to replace it. You know me, the brand nor the endorsement is secondary to the glove style and webstyle. If I can ever pick up a similar web then we will be set to go for trade talks with the Nokona.

I have a few of those gloves in the collection where it seems it may be a one of a kind webstyle or glove style (at least that I have seen over the years) and that throws the breaks on me doing a trade with anyone surrounding those gloves. (good in some ways, due to the uniqueness of the glove but then I feel compelled to hang onto it until I get a similar glove to replace it).

The only other Nakonas that I could find in my Baseball gloves was a Lloyd Rigby G28 with lace all the way up the thumb and a G-6 endorsed by Tommy Holley. I could part with either of these gloves to you as I already have a webstyle or glove style that I could replace them with, at least I think I could find them sometime. You likely already have both of them though.

So, keep your eyes peeled for some webstyle similar to the Model G 25 Bettencourt glove and if you see one let me know. Maybe, someday it will work out for both of us.

Wow JD,

Looks like you have quietly built up the Rainey webs collection without me knowing. LOL Great gloves. I think we both share the same webstyles (single, double, wide and even wider) but you have more than I. I am still glad I have the ones I have and of course I have no duplicate gloves styles due to space and funds. LOL

I pass the Rainey crown to you now!!!

This three finger Lutzke style Leacock brand glove sold for $431.99 - looks like a really nice glove minus the ink on the strap.
