There was a description of the base mitts with the adjustable "T" web in a 1941 Wilson catalog that allowed for it to be removed if it did not conform to league rules. Base mitts became pretty innovative in their design. Interesting how the advances in base mitts led to changes in fielders gloves. I was thinking of the Rawlings Trap-Eze and Nokona Tex-Siz-Trap gloves.

Recently received in a trade. A Rawlings "Duster Mails Special" G80 glove. A very tall and narrow glove at 10" X 9". Has a nice patch and logo button. Took a lot of cleaning to get through the black grime that built up over the years.The original owner may have removed some of the padding from the inside to make a deeper pocket. A fun glove to play catch with.
Below is the G80 on the left compared to my G60 "Short Finger" model

You guys might remember this one from eBay a few weeks ago. It's a Doak J SPECIAL. most of the lining was destroyed, but, at the same time, it had two nice labels and the exterior of the glove looked fine. This is still a work in progress. It's almost done. I had an old, stiff, Rawlings Bob Bowman off to the side just waiting to be made use of. I cut the glovelike horsehide lining carefully away from the rest of the glove. Shortened the fingers to match the J SPECIAL and trimmed off the extra grommets to also match the Doak. Then I conditioned the resulting lining to make it soft and easy to work with. My last step will be to carefully attach the new lining in a few key places. As it is now, it sits in the glove as if it were made for it. Finally I'll want to clean and condition the entire glove a little bit more. It's a real diamond-in-the-rough and has been a lot of fun to work on.

Thanks Dave, This is my fourth J SPECIAL. I really like this model. Funny thing was that I saw it offered (with all this stuffing removed and odd pieces almost hanging out the back of the glove) and I almost immediately visualized what I could do with it. I think I really had a longing to set myself up for a project like this.

A recent find. A circa 1905 Spalding model OX catchers mitt. I owned a similar one years ago without any of the markings visible on the face. This one has the patent stamp on the finger guard and three patent stamps on the face. I am pretty stoked.

I picked this mitt up a few months back. Large, white leather William Read and Sons crescent padded catchers mitt. It may have had the wrist guard at one time but it's long gone if it did. Love the contrast of colors and the sharp tagging. Was happy to add this to my fielders glove - now I just need a 1B mitt to complete the trifecta. Someone out there must have one.

It looks like it may have some sort of heel lacing or is it sewn all around? Nice mitt regardless.

Sonnett model CLP Duke Snider - very large, high quality glove.

OK MFG CO. model SG84 Ival Goodman split finger. Love this glove because of the welting on the back of the fingers. First of this style I've owned.

Beautiful Sonnett model G4F Eddie Stanky with original box. Have the exact same glove in unused shape for a LH thrower but the binding and lining are different colors.

The broad leather seam protector wrapping around from the back to the front is pretty cool. Also the low placement of the finger lacing and eyelets.

This s pretty common on the lat 1940's/early1950 Sonnett gloves. I'm not sure the reasoning behind the design but maybe it puts less stress on the lacing during the catch so it last longer?
