Bill Werber Brine glove

This is an A6 that I saw in the 1931 Brine catalog. This one seems nicer than what I think of as a $2.oo glove. Does anyone know what the Checker designation means. I assume a previous owner had a connection with the Coast Guard, since the USCG looks hand inscribed, no factory stamped. A nice glove befitting a Duke All-American and a pretty decent Major Leaguer.

Whew, interesting glove!
We ran a newsletter interview story on Werber discussing a bit of gloves of his day. And anyone interested can pick up one of our fellow glovers, Paul Rogers, assisted biography on Werber which should still be out (I think published through SABR). I think Werber lived to be 100 and was fairly active in his last 10 years. I had him sign one of his store gloves for me.
Anyone interested in the article, I can send photocopies via snail mail.

"Memories of a Ballplayer" is the Werber/Rogers book, publisher in 2001. It's a fun read and copies are still available. Werber also wrote " Circling the Bases with Bill Werber" published, I believe, in the late 1970's. It's seriously out of print so I'm glad to have a signed copy.

I don't know what the Checker designation means but I've seen it on a couple of other Brine gloves. Brett has one with a Checker patch:
