I've seen plenty of Hutch (and American Eagle, made by Hutch) Warren Spahn gloves with that unique finger lacing. This is the first non-Spahn endorsed model I've ever seen.

Bretman, that's what I was thinking myself. Is it safe to assume then that Hutch was making the American Eagle brand gloves?

Is this a block letter Avila or a signature stamping? The finger lacing is. . .well. . . let's say. . . secure.

I have a Hutch 100 block Bob Avilla. Roberto (Beto) Avila was one of my favorite Tribe second baseman. My notes say I got it in trade from Mark Walters.

It's not a signature model. I'll take better pics in and out this weekend.

I've never seen an "official" history of the American Eagle brand, but that's the conclusion I've come to. Every American Eagle glove I've come across has been a copy of an existing Hutch model, except for the labeling and model number.

The other bit of history I've gleened from the cloth labels on these gloves is that the A/E brand was apparently sold through the Speigel company (of "the Speigel catalog" fame).

I also had my American Eagle Spahn model with multi-laced fingers The Avilla glove was a new one to me and another from http://www.baseballglovecolector.com, a Tom Peuhl model below.
Tom Puehl Hutch 56 Back Douga.jpg

The Avilla glove seemed to be a mid level glove from the catalog but of high quality. Hutch began in the leather tanning business at the turn of the century so they knew the process well. I've enjoyed all of my Hutch finds over the years. Dimaggio model 53 below

Duke Snider model 54 below. First time I've seen the "wrist snugger" on a Hutch glove and the "Snider" endorsement might be somewhat rare.

One super looking Hutch model 40 "Vince DiMaggio" model recently sold on ebay for $109. Was top of the line in 1941
