Help- Split Finger Glove- Crescent Pad?: Canadian.

Postby bucklebackjeff » May 29th, 2010, 10:14 pm

Not a new acquisition of mine, but one that I've been puzzled about.

Purchased several years ago at an antiques store in eastern Ontario.
Looking for any additional information on it.
Label on back says "McNiece's Sports- Montreal" with names "Johnny Bennett and Kenny Grant" (apparently these two names are former pre-CFL players from Montreal in the 30's).
The padded heel has "All Star" on it. The pocket (just under the ring finger) has half of a crest visible, with words "Quality, Sporting Goods." Looks like there might have been a number under the crest too. On the back of the thumb, it looks like there is an oval shape with "Canadian Legion" printed in it.
Can't find any endorsement, probably didn't have one.
Not sure the year? 40's? 50's? Value?

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

Looks to be late 1930's or 1940's issue. Most likely a softball glove. Looks really neat - love the two tone leather on the front and the tag on the back. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to you both for the input. Softball glove eh? :) Is that why the padding is on the heel and around the pinky?

It's nice to hear from someone who remembers the actual store in Montreal. It's hard to find information on gloves they made, all I can find are hockey items...go figure!
