Been Awhile....

Postby vintagebrett » February 27th, 2010, 9:42 pm

...since I found anything worth posting about. Broke out of my slump in a major way this evening - 2 Spalding Ruth Home Run Specials, 2 Walter Johnsons, a Cy Young, a GC Alexander, a Ruth bat and a pair of Ruth celluloids. Hope to get some pictures up in the morning. And no, they weren't giving them away, unfortunately.

Top row - Ruth, Ruth, Young
Bottom row - Johnson, Johnson, Alexander

The Ruths are both Spalding - the one on the far left is Canadian - it looks like the same glove that Rob M. bought last year on eBay and then returned. Hmmm - did you buy it from a guy in CT, Rob? The Young is a Hutch, of course. The dark Johnson has a tag I'm cleaning - looks like a gothic looking "S" with wings - haven't come across it before. My guess it's a D&M with a local tag. The other Johnson is a Goldsmith. Alexander is one of those generic J.C. Higgins models.

Here is a picture of the tag on one of the Johnson gloves. Can anyone identify it? I'm guessing a private label - glove seems similar to the D&M models so I'm guessing they made it and the store put their own label on.

Oh, and I listed a couple of the gloves on my site (http://www.playokantiques.com) so if you are interested, check them out. Thanks.
