Dazzy Vance Find

Postby smr1 » December 31st, 2009, 8:36 pm

Just found this Dazzy Vance glove at an antique Co-Op. Started cleaning it and was unable to find any markings on the glove. The leather is in good shape (both inside and out), the button is good and so is the tag. Does anyone know the era of this glove?

Nice find. That looks like one of the 1920's Ken-Wel tags - I'd put it towards the end of that decade.

Nice find! Just curious. Which antique co-op did you find that in? I was out in PA today and came up empty.

Thanks guys for the kind remarks. Still have some cleaning work to do yet - but it's a labor of love.

Take care and Happy New Year everyone.

Almost finished with the cleaning. Have a few "finishing touches" remaining.

Brett - I love the new way to import the pictures. A lot easier to add them.

Our newly discovered 1992 glove guide books (found about a dozen) feature the patent drawing submitted to the patent office in 1927 on the front cover. By the way, I am offering these last remnants and out of print books to glove forum members for a discount (off ebay price) of $12.95 plus $3 postage. Contact me at glovecollector@mac.com if interested.
My question is this to forum members has anyone seen similar store models to the Vance such as the Goldsmith Valdez Modelo? I ask because the game used Lefty Grove Reach glove I was able to look at had the similar double lacing through the fingers except that the laces ran all the way to the little finger instead of stopping at the ring or third finger as in the Vance.

Here's a shot of the "What Smart Dealers Know About Baseball Gloves" circa 1992 by Ryan Petty. Note the patent illustration submittal on the cover.

I posted this one in the "Vintage Glove Pictures" section awhile back:

Never have been able to to nail down any info on the brand (Sport Center) or find out anything else about this glove.

Right Bret. I'd forgotten about that. But you reminded me, I think Nocona put out a Pinky Higgins model in the mid 1940s with the double horizontal lacing thru the fingers shortly after the single laced gloves
came out around WWII.
Thanks

I have a Rawlings BH with lacing that goes all the way through and back - it was near top of the line in the late 30's/early 40's. Also have a Higgins Bucky Walters with same lacing. These are different from the Vance but in the same line of thinking.

The Hutch Pep Young that I bought from Brett awhile back has the same style lacing, also. There was an oddball Terry Moore on ebay recently (stamped Franks Co. I think) that looked exactly like its Ken~Wel counterpart with the same Vance style lacing.
