Stuffy McInnis and Ival Goodman

Recently found these two items at a flea market.

The bat cleaned up very nice (received good instructions on how to do so). Stamping on the bat is incredible and the length measures 34".

Stamping on the glove is also nice. Did not see any manufacturer markings. However, according to the catalog, this is probably a Stall and Dean. The web / tunnel loop is missing.

For the bat - I used 0000 steel wool and mineral spirits along with some elbow grease.

Once done, let that air out for about about 1-1.5 hrs. Now some areas of the stamping had small pieces of steel wool in it, however, with the use of a trusty air compressor, I was able to blow the small amounts of wool out. -

Then, I applied bees wax to the bat in small areas, then used cloth and rubbed very fast to create warm friction and that took care of working the wax in.

Keep repeating over the bat, until satisfied.

I just learned about this method for this type of bat, so I would not use it on - say a decal bat.

I believe the McInnis glove had a tunnel loop or small piece of webbing, but it was missing when I purchased it. Anyway, I would like to have one made for it.

I will be visiting a leather restoration shop and need to bring a picture of how the web would be for this type of glove.

Does anyone have a picture (close up) of how the webbing design is supposed to be for the McInnis glove - so the shop can recreate one? Also, the size or type of material used would be great.

Any help would be appreciated.

Scott, thanks for the bat cleaning tips. I'll practice on a beater before trying it on a better bat.
