February 2009 Finds

Kind of a hodgepodge today at the antique store - I hadn't been able to get to this one for awhile because of daddy duties by my mother in law is in town so I got some free time today. One booth had a 50% sale so I picked up some neat things. One glove - 1920's 1B mitt - top of the line but very dried out and needs some major CPR. Other stuff I got was: 1950's youth hockey jersey, 1950-60's Stall & Dean Hockey Mask for a goalie, badminton shuttlecocks in original packaging, St. Louis Browns souvenir pocket mirror, 1952 Philadelpia A's schedule with Connie Mack on front, 1961 National League schedule in leather case, an early Spalding whitle and a whole box of Allen Ginter and other tobacco cards (mainly non-sport). Should have fun going through the box this week. Nothings a keeper so if anything strikes a cord, drop me line.

February 2009 Finds

Nice pick ups. I struck a keeper a few weeks ago (with the Chapman glove) at a stand that also had a 50% off marking.

We have to do our part to boost the economy and perhaps - now is the time to buy. People are certainly looking to make deals. Plus, the time is right to hit the antique shops during this winter season.

Again - it's always good to see the pictures.

Take care - Scott

A lot of the booths should be offering 50% off based on the fact that a lot of their items have been sitting there for years. Not just sports - all sorts of items. It amazes me to go into these stores and see the same prices time after time. Guess these dealers can afford to sit on their inventory.

I'm anxious to see how the economy affects the outdoor shows. Will there be more dealers or less? Will the merchandise be higher or lower? Can't wait to see!

My dad and I went to antique show this morning up in Massachusetts - a lot of nice items but not too many gloves. Did pick up this Thomas E. Wilson double buckle catchers mitt - what a well made item! The glove is literally 3 inches thick! The buckle web is really interesting too. Also picked up a couple of postcards - I'll scan them in later.

Here are the postcards - first one is of some boys at a camp - love the mushroom bat the gloves hanging! Second one has a neat Harvard graphic.
