"Shoeless Joe's" Glove from Field of Dreams

Ever wonder where props like this from the iconic movie end up? Vegas!

On display in a coffee table in Suite at the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino on the strip.

Just spent the weekend there and me and my buddies were upgraded to a huge suite, which had this glove on display along with other stuff from movies such as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Purple Rain, Karate Kid, 48 Hours and Chariots of Fire.

Great hotel, if you are thinking of heading to Sin City, btw.

My father-in-law has another one of the prop gloves from this movie as well. He bought it at a "Make-a-wish" auction along w/ an autographed bat and poster from Ray Liotta. I'll take a picture this weekend...

Great photo.

Ray Liotta (shoeless) was right handed in his batting and left in his fielding. Talk about "Clueless" Joe Jackson. The real Shoeless threw right and batted left as the baseball reference states. Great movie though.

I know Rob "Glovecrazy" Mucha has a glove from The Natural.

Been a while since I've watched the movie, but didn't they "flip the negative", or whatever the movie term is, so that it appeared he threw right and hit left? Or was that Eight Men Out? I remember hearing that somewhere. A lot of people made the comment when the movie came out.

Number9 I think you are thinking about Pride of the Yankees. They didn't flip the negative on Shoeless Joe in Field of Dreams or Eight Men Out. D.B. Sweeney rocked it as Shoeless Joe. He batted left and threw right (properly), unlike Ray Liotta. Love the last scene in Eight Men Out when the credits are rolling. The guys are just screwing around, playing catch and practicing. That was cool.

Totally agree about the credits JD. Love that part and the Shoeless Joe in 8 Men was great as well.. That one incher that Eddie Cicotte wore was nice (possible original). The glove that Bucky Weaver (John Cusack) wore in the film looked too modern. Piggybacking on the whole baseball films thing....who wouldn't want to go hang out in Mr. Mertle's house in the Sandlot? That place looked great!

JD, you're probably right about it being Pride of the Yankees. Thought was Liotta for some reason. I remember there being some technical discussion where the character in question wore a uni with mirrored graphics so when they flipped the image it was correct. Anyhow, great movies despite the historical inaccuracies.

Eight Men Out is probably my favorite baseball movie and yet it's one of the worst in terms of props. Charlie Freakin' Sheen even had an incorrect glove. No excuse for that. He knew better.

In Pride of the Yankees, Gary Cooper ran to third on a hit and they had to use the negative to make it look like he ran to 1st. At least it turned out O.K. You are right though about Charlie Sheen. He should have known better. I was at a National once and Charlie Sheen came up right next to me at Bob McCann's booth. This was right when his collection went up for sale in Leland's. I told him I thought he had a great collection and asked him why he was selling it. He said thanks and that it was all part of his program (12 step) and that he didn't need to have all that stuff. He was super cool and a nice guy. I liked him and I agree with you, Eight Men Out is also one of my favorite baseball movies, probably only second to The Bad News Bears. John Sayles did a helluva good job.

On another note, I wanted to name my boy Lefty but my wife wouldn't let me. My second choice was Tanner after Tanner Boyle (SS in The Bad News Bears) - lost that one too. We settled on Parker. Still got a ballpark reference in there loosely somewhere.

J.D.'s got it right about Gary Cooper's Gehrig. Reversed the negative in "Pride" movie. Ray Liotta? I'm trying to figure out why he was chosen for
Shoeless Joe in "Field." What you want to do with a ball player is have him bat left. How many guys throw left then bat right handed? Not a good idea.
Then Ray was completely reversed for Joe Jackson's throwing and batting
When I interviewed Steve Laliloff years ago on his leather making for the "Eight Men Out" movie, he told me that he re-created the period gloves used based on getting a glove from one of the Black Sox players. Steve was hired originally to reproduce a steamer trunk, turned out a couple of "trick" baseballs and then the gloves.
I have the Nokona glove we loaned for the movie, "League of Their Own" and Used by Megan Kavanaugh's (sp?) character Marla Hooch. It was returned to us when we sent out a replacement Nokona glove used in the film.
Also we lucked out and have D. B. Sweeney's signature on a baseball glove, oddly this one came along with other cast members of the movie, "The Memphis Belle", a WWII bomber flick.
