2008 Greater Boston Sports Collectors Convention

Postby vintagebrett » November 1st, 2008, 1:49 pm

My brother, Beckett and I headed up to Wilmington, MA this morning for the annual Greater Boston Sports Collectors Convention. Last year, I picked up quite a few nice items, including my beautiful Dazzy Vance, so I have been looking forward to this show for a while. We arrived when right before the opening but they were a little slow in selling tickets and getting people in. Once we got in, we started walking around to see what treasures we might find this year. Unfortunately, not many! I did pick up a Sonnett Dick Radatz model that I did not have and that was it. There were some gloves but nothing great. One guy had three nice ones - a Rawlings Doak, Ken-Wel terry more and Geo. A. Reach buckle back split finger - he wanted 250 for the Doak and 350 a piece for the others! Crazy! Didn't see any early gloves at all. Quite a few bats but nothing extroadinary - Bravosin99, I saw a Vim bat that I would have picked up for you but the guy wanted $175 which I thought was $125 too high. All the tables were full but nothing I was interested in buying today. One last note, I saw a Wilson model RG28 Sparky Lyle made in the USA glove - never saw a model number like that. I told my brother I'd buy it if it was $10 but the guy wanted $20 so I passed.

Brett. I was there at the opening of the show Friday at noon. I
I saw the same gloves that you described. I was disappointed at how few gloves were available for sale. That show really seems geared toward the card market.

Brett-

Thanks for thinking of us on the Vim bat...I agree $175 is way to high...$50 would have been more like it...We have never seen any other Vim bats except an old softball one we picked up awhile ago...

JC - I'm sure if there was anything worthy buying it was gone before the show opened since all the major auction houses were there.
