Spalding 1B mitt-major ink

Thrift store. Spalding 42-485 1B mitt. Ron Fairley. Major drag about the ink! Any ideas on how this might come off, or no chance; not even worth trying? Should I even waste new lace on it? So sad.

I would have said don't bother but Gary Bennett was a MLB player. Had a short stint on the PawSox and several other teams. Solid backup catcher. This may have been his childhood mitt...? I choose to be optimistic for your sake.
