Another Thrift Store Treasure

Postby Thudhugger » April 18th, 2008, 12:37 am

Covered in light dust and small cobwebs--I think it cleaned up nicely. I thought I might relace it with tan laces to match the "Spalding" label, I think it might look better. Any comments? I don't think its a high end glove but it is fairly new (late 90s or early 00s) and it has really nice leather.

Very nice! I agree with your tan lace idea. Some nice thick rawhide ones!

good idea

I think the thicker tan laces are a good idea, too! The thicker laces will add a little "body" or stiffness to the glove after it has been relaced.

Make sure you post some "after" photos!
Yes, I still have my first glove.

Get some good quality black leather die and touch up the bare spots. I like Angelus (Jet Black)... Glove will look mint!

The After Shots

Postby Thudhugger » April 19th, 2008, 7:07 pm

Well, Here it is in it's new threads!

I think it really turned out sweet. The contrast between the tan laces and the black leather really looks good. This is how this glove should have looked new.

Found this nice Macgregor GC40 Don Sutton yesterday, it had no laces in the fingers and the leather was getting stiff. After a nice scrubbing, conditioning and all the laces I had, I think it turned out pretty nice. There is a little bit of checking in the palm, but its free of any previous owners writing. So not bad for a buck.

An A2000!! Nice no ink, hardly used. The laces are all hard and breaking but I can fix that.

I thought the laces crossed along the top of the web? Or is this older than that style?

Cost $2.00
