Bought a PRO-H on Ebay yesterday:

Reminded me of Andre Dawson gloves I have seen for sale:

Or Sammy Sosa:

Or Robin Yount:

Glove I bought has HOH lining... Does anyone think this lining is more desirable than the newer Deer Tanned Cowhide? Any comment regarding the PRO-H is welcomed :)

Solid glove. I think you will like it better than the Trap web. I have always felt that the ball stuck better in the H than in the trap. Have fun and play hard!

The HOH lining was far better than the deer tan for holding the gloves shape. was same leather as deer tan except deer tan had been presoftened.

Pro H Web

I recently heard a minor league outfielder talk about his preference for the H web. He just felt it secured the ball much better than a trap.

mike,

i think they used the 4 dot code in 1979, so yours is probably a 1989 model (horween lining right?)

Yes, Horween lining... I should take a couple of pics of the glove to post. the PRO-H on the pinkie is stamped with very thin letters which makes it look "older". Also, I was questioning 89 when I saw your glove with the "soft hands" which I would think was more recent and that glove was from 84 :?

Regarding "dots" I thought 1979 was 1 dot (1980 minus 1 dot = 1979). How did you get 4 ( 1975 plus 4?)

i've seen an "older" pro H where the ProH was stamped at the base of the heel, it was a "dotter", i think those were the original proH's. i've narrowed the dot coders down to pre-1982 and blackhorsers to post. i think they started using the BH code in the middle of 1983. so there is a mix that year.

the dot code as i have been told, is just an addition exercise.

1 = 1961, 1965+1=1966, 1971 or 1976, 1981
2 = 1962, 1967 etc
3 = 1963, 1968 etc
4 = 1975+4=1979
5 = 1975+5=1980

(i think) :roll:

Just to be clear, 4 dots is also 1974 and 5 dots 1975? And BH started in 1982 and lastest until mid 1993?

Thanks!

yes on 5 dots, the BH code started in 1983 and went all the way until 1997. 1998 they went back to the dot code and USA made gloves ended in 1998 and subsequently the "good" stuff horween.

i emailed skip horween and he said that they still supply rawlings with "horween" leather, it's just not the cardboard stiff non-oil tanned stuff from pre-1999.
