Brimfield - September 2009

Postby vintagebrett » September 8th, 2009, 7:07 pm

One of the joys of being a stay at home dad is that I finally get to go to Brimfield during the September dates. I've never been able to experience a Tuesday September show until today. After reading all the success stories our fellow forum members have been having lately, I was cautiously optimistic that maybe something was out there for me to find today. And it was!!! Today would easily rank in my top 3 buying days, it may even be the best. I also did pretty well selling so that made it even better. I'm a little burned out from the sun so I have one picture to share, with more to come when I'm rested and can snap some shots. Great hanging out with Number9 - was hoping you'd come back with another water for me! :)

So, what did I find:

GLOVES
White crescent fielders glove with unusual tag (CS American Quality??) - this is a keeper so don't bother emailing me about a sale price. :)
Two Winchester sewn webs - one has a 3 inch tag that is pristine
JC Higgins Bucky Walters with interesting lacing through fingers
Hutch Leo Kahny split finger
1950's Willie Miranda glove
Stall & Dean model G Tahiti Kip Leather
Passon Co. split finger Frank Crossetti
Reach buckle back catchers mitt
Spalding full web with asbestos lining and early tag/button

OTHER STUFF
LS 125 John Kennedy K55 pro model bat - minor leaguer but cool name
1941 Spalding Ford Frick St. Louis Cardinals souvenir ball with box
1958 Leominster, MA HS basketball trophy and accompanying scrap book

Wow~ Great finds. That definitely would not happen in our area. Looks like somebody got into the picture too. :D Just curious what did the crescent go for?

As always, nice hanging with you too. I actually did come back with more water! You must have had such a good day selling that you packed up early. Your car was packed to the head liner with sewn webs but you were nowhere to be found!

It was more pure luck than anything else. I bought the crescent and 2 winchester gloves from the same dealer - we were walking around the field before it opened and he was showing them to another dealer. i happened to spot them and waited until they were done. the other dealer passed so I made my move and secured them. and don't worry ricky, i didn't spend beckett's college fund on the purchase. :) they were underpriced but he wasn't giving them away.

Number9, I did pack up around 3:15 because I hadn't seen a shopper for over 45 minutes come within 20 feet of my booth. you should have called me - i was walking around looking for more crescents! :)

Here are pictures of a couple of the gloves - I can only clean so many at a time. You'll have to wait on the Winchesters.

Stall & Dean Tahiti Kip leather glove - very large - someone had sewed some extra padding into the pocket but removed it. Still a cool glove. Rob?? :)

And the crescent - anyone familiar with the tag?? It has a couple condition issues but I'm not going to touch it in any way except to put it on display with it's new family.

Nothing out there yesterday, only a couple cheap buys this morning - a Hutch Harry Craft buckle back, two pennants and a 40BH Stanley Bucky Harris bat. One more day for me although I better bring my raingear!

Here are some better pictures of a couple of the items:

Hutch model 32 Harry Craft - interesting web - the tunnels are sewn onto the glove on one side, laced on the other.

Reach model 15D (?) catchers mitt - can't make out stampings but there is an endorsement as well - nice leather on the front

Image

Spalding full web with asbestos lining - webbing is torn but rest of glove is solid - leather is smooth and soft, nice tag and button

Winchester sewn web - this is the lesser quality/condition of the two

Winchester model 2147 sewn web - high quality glove in great shape with incredible tag and button.

I've gotten quite a few emails regarding the availability of the Winchester gloves. I'm thinking of doing a Dutch auction on the site for the higher grade one - it would start at a high price and drop an increment each day until someone buys it. What do you guys think?

Last day of the show for me - rainy today though and the pickings were pretty slim. All I got were 2 bats and ball. Bats are JF Hillerich 40FB Frank Baker decal - 33 inches, 42 ounces - other bat is a Mantle K55 LS 125. Ball is just an old blue/red stitcher - like to put these with the glove displays.
