Correct webbing for an old Wilson??

Over the past couple of weeks I purchased a LHT and RHT of Wilson Model 560 'Elbie Fletcher' first base mitts. (1948 in the Catalog Source Book).

I'm sure that neither has the original web. The RHT had a rolled top loop and rawhide looped through the lacing that binds the mitt together. The LHT had rawhide looped through the binding.

I've looked at the great pictures on BaseballGloveCollector. I could not find the exact model. A couple of mitts from the 30s/40s had a T shaped web but....

Does anyone have a Model 560 or a picture showing the original lacing?

Take a look at my 605L and Ted Williams 614 (Mike Johnson Collection) on Baseball Glove Collector dot com. That's the web. Wilson used that web on both high quality fielders gloves and base mitts circa 1948. Occasionally you can come across a healthy triple bar web like this on an old Wilson glove that's otherwise shot. Good luck, you might be able to find one. They're fun to lace in.

What a great resource your webpage is!!! And using my newly acquired dave cunningham terminology...The gloves have a triple tunnel with a vertical strap. Its actually a good looking web on this mitt, and I'll be looking on ebay.

Glad that helped. That old Wilson web is a nice looking and very effective web, it's true. Just to clarify (and I'm sure you know this). The gloves I referenced are from my collection; the site is Jim Daniels' creation. I agree, it is a great resource. JD's really doing a fine job building it up, too.

I agree with you guys that JD's website is a great resource. It does just keep growing with over 3500 images. Most impressive. Jack, glad you are getting some use with the glove book too. I love the old timer webs on those gloves and that is what has caught my interest over the years and even stimulated my interest in writing the book. There are just sooo many cool webs.

Mike you have a super collection of gloves and mitts. Wonderful collection and I have enjoyed checking them out on JD's website. I am glad you shared them on his website.
