Tony Conigliaro XPG8

I just picked this glove up on E-bay. I see it was made in 66 and 67. I'm a big Red Sox fan so it will be cleaned up and displayed. However I was wondering what the value of the glove is. I love all the XPG gloves but had never seen an XPG 8 before this auction. Is it a rare glove?

So you're the guy that won that glove. I had it on my watch list- you scoundrel!

I'm just kidding, but I did see that glove. When I saw it I remember thinking that you don't see too many of those.

The price guide lists Tony C-endorsed gloves as "common", and I see many of his lower-quality gloves for sale all the time. But the XPG8 seems to be found far less often. I can only recall seeing a couple of these.

Just from a straight price guide reading, Conigliaro gloves are listed at $40/$80/$150 for "VG/EX/NM" conditions. Frankly, those prices sound kind of high to me for, as the guide puts it, "mid-level" gloves. The guidelines say to add 30-50% for "premium, personal models" and the XPG8 would certainly qualify. These gloves were near the top-of-the-line when they were issued.

While the price guide gives us a good starting point, one of the fun things about this hobby are the variables that can go into figuring a glove's worth. Supply, demand, condition, age, quality, size, maker, as well as player or team popularity can all adjust the book values either up or down.

Rawlings gloves are popular, as are the XPG-series gloves. Tony C was a popular player for team with a rabid fan following. All those factors should tend to drive the price upwards, closer to the book values listed above.

Hope that helps!
