Interesting Book

I picked up a book at the library the other day called A Game of Inches: The Stories Behind the Innovations That Shaped Baseball written by Peter Morris.

There is a section on gloves and it mainly talks about the adoption of them during the 1800's. The most interesting section to me concerned players leaving their gloves on the field when they went to bat. Apparently this was common until after the 1953 season when a rule was put in place to prohibit this practice. The coaches were upset about this because it would slow down the game. I found this amusing considering how long it takes to play a game now.

The book contains a lot of other interesting tidbits. It seems to be very well researched and it is the type of book where you can hop around and read what interests you.
