A Doak by any other name

The Rawlings Bill Doak model in 1922. The glove still has a patent applied for status. The patent would not be approved till later in 1922 after the 1922 catalog was printed.

Here's a 1920 Rawlings catalog illustration featuring the Doak glove 2 years prior to a patent. Note the six web grommets on this early version.

The rare early Rawlings example below.

There's a phrase, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows", that captures the attitude of the other glove manufacturers in 1920 as they rushed to come out with their own version of the Doak glove.

An unfortunately blurry 1923 Stall & Dean catalog illustration of a "Professional Model" adjustable web glove.

The example below is from Stall & Dean.

Wright, Ditson & Victor came out with two stylish models in 1922 featuring a six grommet Doak style web. They were one year only models.

A Simmons American Doak style glove with six grommet web in 1922.

Tomorrow I'll post the four grommet web versions.

Even a Montgomery Wards model from 1922.

A 1941 Nokona catalog illustration of the John Whitehead G33 glove with Doak style webbing. This is a double tunnel web model. Apparently a pretty rare glove in the collecting world.
Image

A nice example below. Not a Whitehead model but rather a Joff Cross G33 triple web glove.

A Rawlings Bill Doak reissue glove that was part of a history exhibit touting Rawlings innovations through the years. Odd that they didn't bother to lace the front of the thumb and forefinger stall as the 1922 patent drawing depicted.
