Hi Brett and Everyone!
Glad to see an online forum! First and foremost I am probably the new guy in the neighborhood but look forward to dealing with most of you and meeting you at some point in time. I am definitly a novice when it comes to the memorabilia aspect. I did baseball card shows for 20 plus years and grew tired of the ever rising cost of packs and singles.......

I decided (after selling off all of my sportscards for a crazy low price) that it was time to re-focus my heart into more appealing items such as baseball gloves, and sports memorabilia in general. In the past year or so i have had my collection of gloves grow from 4 to around 400, and my club collection grow from 3 to almost 200. I have struggled in the past in making "collectors" decisions and "sellers" decision! Ok i'll be honest i still struggle. But either way it has been fun and not so stressful as the card hobby had become.

Here is my dilema, I live in a state where the items to buy either are stored away real deep in a cellar or they never made it here! Montana seems to have been picked over pretty good and I seemed to have missed the boat so to say. Dont get me wrong there are some finds here and there but a Montana 'Antique" show cosists of 100 gun dealers and a few glassware dealers. All kidding aside I love the state so all is good, and I will get my share of "finds" here and there(as long as I am the only collector/dealer in the state. Am I?). I have made purchases with some of you through Ebay and some outside of Ebay and will continue to do so, but I have grown very tired of Ebay as descriptions from some people of thier gloves seem to leave a bit to be desired! so I hope that I will hit the Antique circut soon find some treasures and meet the all that are in the glove collector nation.

Wants and Needs.... first and foremost i am a Cleveland Indians fan so anything Indians related is a good place to start. I would like to get a Real clean Joe Jackson glove.

I really need parts for repairs... tunnels, webs, etc.

I am going to cut this short as I could go on and on. I look forward to hearing from all of you and if you have any wants or needs for yourself or your friends, please let me know and I will try to help you out!

Have fun and have a great day!
BJ

Clcking In...

Postby Brotherray » February 17th, 2008, 5:28 pm

Just wanted to say hi to everyone and to say I am looking forward to being a part of this community. I've been messing around with relacing and repairing ball gloves as a hobby for about 25 years, ever since I tore apart my Catfish Hunter A2000.

I am thinking about doing this as a fun, part time gig as there seems to be a real need for an experienced glove re-lacer in my area. I look forward to learning all I can from everyone and to share my lousy $.02 with anyone who will listen.

Thanks!

Hi, my name is Tom I live outside of St. Paul,Minnesota. Am an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and have collected some memorabilia of the team. My first glove was a Stan Musial, youth model. It has disappeared along with my card collection, too many moves. I currently have a glove given to me by an old friend, he used it in the 30's and 40's playing town ball in Northern Minnesota. The only markings are genuine horsehide, greased palm, trade mark and the number 1678. The back strap has two holes for a steel button. I also just bought a Paul Gillespie catchers mitt on Ebay from one of your members. Paul was a cousin of mine, I find it hard to believe that he has a mitt. It certainly isn't from the 1940's. The siginature looks like his, could some one buy a personalized glove with any signature added, like you can with a baseball bat?

Thanks for any info you members can supply.

Thanks a lot

Hello and welcome.

The model 1678 glove you have was most likely made by J.C. Higgins / Sears - the stampings and model number would indicate them as the manufacturer.

Although it is very rare for someone to add a signature to a glove, it has happened in our hobby. They are usually easy to identify. If you post pictures of the glove, someone here will be able to help you out.

Hello all, my name is Troy, and I am glad to be a part of this forum, my knowledge of vintage baseball gloves is very limited. My hope is that in time, reading your disscussions will educate me. I have just recently inherited a quantity of old gloves from a relative. All of them range in age from 1920 to 1950. roughly.
Thanks
