Is this the second printing of the first book, or a completely new book? I couldn't tell from the description on the website.

Congratulations on another outstanding book Jonathan. You should be proud. I'm envious of your collecting passion (oh, and the new pieces). I put up some teaser photos in the blog section to whet some appetites.

Well said Brett, support a fellow Forum member and friend and get the newest hobby book by Jonathan entitled Dugout Treasures, Collecting Crossroads here http://www.dugouttreasures.com/book.cfm .

Hell All,

First off, many thanks to both Jim and Brett for their kind words of support. We’ve been working on this 2nd book for a while now and have received a great deal of encouragement from both of these fine gentlemen. In fact, Jim composed the Foreword for this one and each provided a review that you can see here on our website…

Here is the link to Jim’s blog about the book…

http://www.baseballglovecollector.com/jims-blog/

Dugout Treasures, Collecting Crossroads is indeed a new book…it is not simply a second printing of the first work which was entitled Memorabilia and Memories. Now, it does contain some familiar pieces and stories, but it includes over 40 new examples of vintage equipment that have been added to the collection over the past two years. I have stripped out the pieces we’ve sold or traded and tried to reflect the new look collection as it exists today. In fact, that is what the book is all about…an evolving collection and an exploration into how and why tastes change over time….something I know that we can all relate to.

This new book, which is about 10 pages longer than our first, also incorporates the work of two outstanding photographers to include the Connecticut artist who created the unique Collectograph process. More importantly, it contains what we a feel are the most significant pieces of our collection that just happened to have been added over the past two years.

Given how much time and effort went into them, both of our books are like children to me. That said, I do believe we achieved more sophisticated product here with Dugout Treasures, Collecting Crossroads.

I’d be very happy to answer any questions that any of you might have about the book…after all, talking about it is what makes it worth it.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Jonathan

Here is Brett Lowman’s review of the book…

“Any collector will tell you that their collection evolves as time passes – they find new avenues to explore to keep that spark alive. Here in the Popovich's second book, the transformation of a collection takes place in front of your eyes. Captured in stunning photographs by Tony Dube and Scott Lomenzo, the reader is transported into a world class vintage baseball collection that spans many eras and different collecting genres. Being a collector, you'll enjoy the new additions and stories that accompany them, in essence, because the captivating dialogue will resonate with your own experiences. There is a vast variety of high quality, top condition items that will cause you to drool with envy and invigorate one to embark on “treasure hunts” looking for new additions to one's collection. The family element that runs throughout the book is a highlight and heartwarming to readers. Having had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan and his family at the National, I can honestly relate the utter joy they experienced finding new treasures and making new friends. Although the book may showcase some great vintage items, it also deftly shows the reader that collecting is not just about the “goods”, it's about family and friendship too. I'm honored to call Jonathan my friend and highly recommend adding this book to your library."

And here is the other from Jim Daniel...

"I love books, especially baseball books and I love this book. It’s so cool to read about and look at stuff you’re passionate about. Well Jonathan satisfied my hunger again with another brilliant book entitled Dugout Treasures, Collecting Crossroads, where he continues his collecting journey by telling the story of how his family collection has evolved, not changed, in a very short time. His collection literally got more focused and made a sharp turn since his first book. The many new acquisitions and images are stunning. He explores and addresses the inevitable question common to all of us collectors. Why do our tastes or interests change over time? His timing is perfect as our hobby goes through another transition. Dugout Treasures, Collecting Crossroads is an asset to our hobby and should be in the library of every collector."

Got my copy for Xmas, and what can I say...other than...it was the single gift I spent the rest of the day reading. My girlfriend was amazed at how one book could keep my attention so long, but more importantly, quiet so damn long. Serious pictures of some serious vintage baseball equipment & memorabilia, and without a doubt, a seriously good read for the collector!!

Great Book, thanks Jonathan
