Triumph Brand Sporting Goods

Jacob Epstein Immigrated to the United States in 1879. His first stop was New York City but he soon settled in Baltimore. He opened his first wholesale department store in 1881and called it the "Baltimore Bargain House". His main business was as a distributor to retail stores.

Epstein eventually changed the name of the business to the "American Wholesale Corporation". By the 1920's He had opened eight different branches through out Maryland. The business was sold in 1929.

Below is a catalog ad from 1926 featuring the "Triumph" house brand of baseball gloves. The ad states that Epstein had contracted with a major sporting goods company to manufacture a line of gloves.

The middle glove below is touted as the latest innovation in glove design by eliminating the finger seams by the use of a one piece back panel. This is the Denkert patented invention from 1926.

The glove below is the Triumph "Professional Model" with a nice logo in the pocket.
