A Victor sporting Goods Co, (Springfield Mass) advertisement in Baseball Magazine, circa 19 teens shows endorsements for the Victor Glove Mitt -- "Best thing ever devised for Base Ball Players."
Hugh Jennings says "they gave more satisfaction any any glove I ever used. I would recommend them to any infielder in any League." Keeler says, "For an outfielder it beats the old style glove to pieces."

Our Special Chase Model for First Base men is a duplicate of the one we made for Hal Chase who says, "I find it satisfactory in every detail andlike it very much and will continue to use and recommend it ."

Wouldn't we like to find any of these names in a retail model??

Nice mitt! It looks identical to the one pictured at 6GM. The thumb seam and back panel match well.

Thanks. One thing I try to tell people about how to tell if a mitt is a fielders mitt or a youth basemitt is, at least with the couple I have, is that you can make a fist when your hand is inside. You can literally do the G.I. Joe with the Kung Fu Grip when your hand is inside and pull the lining inside out back through the back strap. Fielders mitts don't generally have finger stalls up inside. Some of the youth ones do though.

that's crazy! I never have owned one, didn't know they were just one big space inside. From Joe's article it seems the glove/mitts were highly touted by fielders of the day. How does your mitt feel on the hand. Does it feel like it would do the job in the field?

Although roomy and comfortable, they seem like they would be horrible to play with. Imagine two pillows sewn together. Your hand flops around inside like a large boxing glove only gripped by the finger tips at the top joint. Your hand would literally slide around inside. There isn't much to grip. They feel neat but I wouldn't want to be playing middle infield with one.

Here's my other one. Once again, you can push your finger tips up to the very top unobstructed and can cross them or make a fist because there are not finger tunnels or stalls inside. You can literally put the mitts on, put your thumb in the main section, slap the back of the thumb with your right hand and spin it around like a propeller.

I just set a high snipe and bought it, as I've been wanting a Fielders Mitt for the collection. It is listed as a Fielders Mitt, but in re-looking at the provided pics, it appears that it does have finger stalls (see photo #4). There's just enough evidence to suggest that the finger stalls are indeed there.

Is this one really a Fielders Mitt, or a Base Mitt?

Hi Mark, this sure looks like a fielders mitt to me. Fielders mitts can certainly have finger stalls within but the only way to definitively tell the difference from a basemitt or a youth mitt is to match a model number to one of the early catalogs. I once owned the two A.J. Reach fielders mitts in the recent Legendary Auctions and those both had finger stalls inside. What made those so special was that the model number matched the fielders mitts in the catalogs.

Feel confident that this is a fielders mitt. I like it. Nice pickup.

I've owned a couple of fielder's mitt and have noticed that the Spaldings and Reachs are a little tighter than the ones that Rob and Jim have which are a tad bit larger. I appreciate your interest/bid and like I said if you are not fully satisfied for any reason about your purchase, then just email me and I will provide you with a full refund. I really like that mitt and others I sold the past 2-3 weeks, but my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and I wanted to free up some cash just in case anything came down the road.

I didn't know you were the seller, and am so sorry to hear about your wife's diagnosis. They've come a very long way with treatment for this, and please know that my thoughts are with you. My dad was just diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer, so I know the mental toll this takes. It looks like this is indeed a Fielders Mitt, so all is good!

Thanks for your input, as I know you're one of the the true Early Glove "Gurus". Glad to hear that this one seems to qualify as a Fielders Mitt, and that the finger stalls aren't a deal-killer. I think the Mitt is cool either way, but just got a bit concerned when I read the content of this thread earlier this morning...
