Mastro, Allen & Theotikos Indicted

Postby Mr. Mitt » July 25th, 2012, 1:38 pm

We've been waiting several years for this hammer to come down, and today it finally has.

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/iteam/ ... ud-charges

"Between at least 2001 and February 2009, Mastro, Allen, Theotikos and others allegedly caused and made false representations and omissions in Mastro Auctions’ catalogs, advertising, promotions, and other media, and in the bids placed in certain auctions". Hmmmm... where have we heard of this before? Perhaps right here on this forum. 8)

The timing of this couldn't have been better, should make for an interesting National next week! Wish I could attend to partake in all the gossip and innuendo.

Wow! We had heard this was happening for a while but it got to the point that it seemed it wasn't going to. With the Black Swamp card find and this, the hobby is getting tons of publicity which means there will probably be more media attention on the National. I'm happy to make the persuasive case why glove collecting is where it's at!

It will be interesting to see if there are other houses/individuals under scrutiny. All I can say is

I wonder how this will affect the Legendary Auctions? The remainder of John Graham's collection?

It will be interesting to see - I'd assume that business will continue as per usual until this goes to trial. They have an annual auction at the National so we will get to see their course of action quickly. You would think that they wouldn't show at the National, but I'm sure they have some loyal "customers" that benefitted from the allegations and will still be in their corner. If we hear/see anything at the show, we will post it here.
