In the 1840's, Leonard and Lafayette Treman formed Treman Brothers Hardware in Ithaca NY. A third brother, Elias soon came on board. The Treman brother's cousin, Leander King became a partner in 1857 and the business name was changed to Treman & King Co. The business consisted of wholesale hardware and sporting goods and was very successful. By the late 1920's, Leander King was the last of the original partners and due to his age, he sold the wholesale hardware and sporting goods business to a store in Elmira, NY, Barker, Rose & Kimball Hardware. Treman & King again changed hands in 1933 when Wilson Sporting Goods bought the business.

Montgomery Wards took over the building after Treman & King dissolved their business in the mid 1940's and lasted till the mid 1970's. Today the building is mixed use.

Here is a 1929 Sports catalog from Barker, Rose & Kimball, the Elmira hardware store that first bought out Treman & King.
