Keeping with the Hollywood theme, this is a still from the 1927 Buster Keaton film "College". HOFer Sam Crawford also makes an appearance playing the baseball coach. Buster Keaton was an avid baseball fan and would often play catch in between filming scenes. His acrobatic athleticism, due to his vaudevillian training, translated well onto the field; as he was an accomplished ballplayer in his own right.

A 1949 photo of Yogi Berra using what looks to be a Rawlings 241 Del Rice model mitt with rolled lace webbing.

Hey Ata, nice photo of Yogi. I don't think he would be using the Del Rice model. The mitt in your photo is distinguished by a 1948 patented crotch reinforcement that eliminated metal eyelets in favor of overlapping leather tabs. Below is a closeup of the mitt in the photo and a model recently on ebay that is a match. It's a Walker Cooper model, top of the line in its day.

Here's a player from the 1890s sporting a webless crescent. That crescent’s a real fatty.

A 1921 Exhibit card of Walter Johnson sporting what appears to be a full web King Patent. Goldsmith had Johnson endorsed sewn web gloves (HG, G, B, K) in the teens and twenties but I haven't seen any King Patent gloves from them; he's most likely using a Spalding.

A while back, JD posted a pic of Johnson with the King Patent model
Image

I found this one. The photo seem to be an early one, 1910-15?
ImageImage

It's interesting that Johnson was endorsing gloves with 2 different manufacturers at the same time, Goldsmith and D&M.
Here's an early photo with him using a full web model. I can't make out the brand.
Image

This is from the BBHOF, a game used D&M model 56. Johnson cut the middle of the web out.
Image

Here's some D&M models from the 1920-30's

This one is from an old timers game in the 1930's. It's a D&M double finger laced model.

D&M made both U-notch and V-notch versions of the glove pictured above.
Here's a rare example for sure, circa 1935.

Here's another photo of Walter Johnson, this time wearing a Rawlings glove on Aug. 23, 1942. Looks like a Doak but it could also be a plethora of other H Type webs that Rawlings released in the early Forties. It looks like Babe is trying to salvage some left over mustard on his lips and Johnson is wondering what he's doing there.

Some gamer models from the BBHOF. Muddy Ruel's trusty KenWel zipper back from 1923

George Sisler and his Rawlings.

I thought Walker Cooper would be a Rawlings man for life. But no, it's a Wilson circa 1943

Two more from the BBHOF. Owned by Lee V. Strong circa 1885. I couldn't find any reference to him. Cool tipped finger catchers/throwing glove set though. Love the thumb seam on the catchers glove. Their is an identical set in JD's gallery. Image

The Reach mitt has the new style buckle strap for 1930.

One of my favourite glove photos. Greg posted this before; might be a Simmons American SG3.
okdoak wrote:Don't know if this photo has already been posted. I just found it and it's circa 1914. I thought Spalding at first, but as far as I know the letters for the model are stamped in the pocket on theirs.
The Simmons American logo looks kind of close. But the catalog listing I found is from 1918 and shows it as a full web. Any guesses?
