I think it would be fun if everyone posted about a glove in the hobby and tell why they think it is interesting and fun. This is such a great hobby with so many different avenues to pursue. Share some of your likes and/ or dislikes for particular gloves. Let's have some fun with it! I have a few in mind and will contribute a post about one or two of them.
I really like catchers mitts. This first mitt is listed as unknown owner but one I've posted a few times in other discussions. I like it mostly because it is really pristine for being such an early model and the screwball four seamed front panel. Not such a great idea for longevity but it kind of works with the reinforced leather front covering the seams in the pocket. The second mitt is Jerry's and it is so unique in the full round shape but mostly I like everything about the ornate back construction. The adjustable finger guard is wild. The third mitt is one from Bill Diebold from years ago and It too is really pristine for an early model. I like the tornado stitching on the front palm and the laced inner palm on the back. Pretty unique trio of mitts!

I'll play. After a long hiatus, I returned to the hobby but hadn't yet decided on an exact focus to peruse. This mitt showed up on eBay and I was drawn to it. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before and knew it was special given the unique wrist guard/strap. I didn't bid on it, however, because I didn't know if it would fit in with the relatively small collection I was planning on having. Years later, it would fit in perfectly and I'm kicking myself for not even placing a single bid. If the owner ever wants to part with it, please get in touch with me.

Was fortunate to pick this beauty up off of Mike a very long time ago... then stupidly let it go when I liquidated everything. Out of all the gloves I once owned, this is the one I wanted back the most. Thankfully we've been reunited and it feels so good. It may not be the rarest nor the most valuable glove I have, but it may very well be my favorite.

That 3 fingered Canadian Reach that sold on ebay recently has to be one of the coolest looking gloves I've seen in a while. I'm usually not that interested in pre-war 3 fingers, but that one has so many features that appeal to me; the indented stubby fingers, strap connecting them, and outward seams. I'm going to speculate that it was intended to be the ultimate pitcher's glove, great for hiding the ball. Quite a few pitchers of that era used 3 finger models and I've posted a few of them. I have no idea what type of 2 or 3 finger that Ted Lyons has on. Anyone else know? Top to bottom the players are Stan Coveleski, Lefty Gomez, Rube Walberg, Eppa Rixey, Charlie Root, and Ted Lyons.
Greg, those are some great photos! I found this 1899 Brogan catalog that has a photo of a mitt that is just killer. The construction of the mitt in three replaceable sections, front, perimeter banding and back is pretty innovative and the look of it with the lacing around the whole perimeter of the mitt is really striking. The story of the mitt is pretty riveting too. Harry Decker, on the run from the creditors, enlists his wife's aid to apply for a patent of his invention so the design could be sold to free up some badly needed cash. So Anna Burns Decker goes down in history as inventor of this 1895 mitt. 1895 mitt.
PROPS TO GREG AND MIKE FOR GREAT PICTURES!!! MOST OF THE PLAYER PIX I HAVE NOT SEEN. PITCHERS SEEM TO FAVOR THE BIG 3 FINGER. WOULD IT HIDE SOMETHING? NO 'THREE FINGERS' BROWN SHOT???? THE DECKER DESIGN IS AMAZING. I'VE NOT SEEN A LACED BANDED MITT LIKE THAT BEFORE FROM THAT ERA. DECKER COULD WORK HIS MAGIC!
It's nice to be back online after not having power for a whole week - there are still a bunch of people near us still waiting for their power back!
Here are two of my favorite cool gloves - first is a Victor Wright Ditson 3 finger model. We always called this the lobster claw growing up - unique color.
Second is one of my Sonnetts with the conjoined finger - this Reno Bertoia model is my favorite. I have a similar Bob Allison model that I play catch with.
this was one I had in my collection a while back . it is a Rawlings "Bill Brubaker" model 480. I was really stoked when I got it mainly because of the wrist strap across the V-notch back opening. That was a first for me. The triple tunnel web didn't hurt either. I later found out the glove was very tough to catalog. it was a big glove in super condition, one of my nicest finds.
Another great picture Greg. From the photo, the Red Faber glove could be a Wilson because of the reinforced web. At one time, I owned the Wilson "Sarge Connally" model you posted above. It was one sweet glove. It was at the bottom of a pile of gloves in a cardboard box at an antique memorabilia show. I was dumbstruck when I got it out. It was basically in the condition shown and to the antique dealer it was just another glove from his catch-all box.
That Sarge Connally is an amazing glove and in superb condition. I can only imagine the rush you felt finding it in that box! Judging by the reinforced web that you pointed out, it may be the same model that ol' Red Faber has on. I'm starting to think that all of the joined finger models are pretty rare, as infrequent as they show up. There is one on ebay right now, but it's a pretty low end model with a hefty BIN. Otherwise, I've seen more crescent pads and King Patents on ebay than I have the joined finger models.
