A.T. Evans started in the jewelry business in 1880 and founded A.T. Evans Jewelry in 1891 in Chicago. At the turn of the century the name was changed to Moore & Evans Jewelry located at 304 Masonic Temple.

During the first decade as sporting goods became highly popular, Moore & Evans moved to a larger location on Wabash Ave. and opened a sporting goods dept.

The 1905 Sporting Goods Catalog features their own brand of gloves but I suspect they were made by another manufacturer. For one thing the gloves display a different model number than the catalog listing and a couple statements refer to Victor Sporting Goods equipment and Louisville Slugger for other athletic needs.

This jewelry trademark is similar to the cloth patch on the gloves

A nice looking glove with a full web and a large, open wrist area.

I'm always amazed at the information you find, Mike. I've tried to research Ripon Leather Works because the town of Ripon is close to where I live. Searched the web, emailed their Historical Society and have come up with next to nothing. Thanks for all your posts about the glove makers. Always enjoy reading them.

Below is a postcard from 1907 of the Moore & Evans department store in Chicago.

Below is an enlargement of the 1905 glove ad from above to better see the construction features.

The reinforcing at the thumb and finger seams is pretty cool. Below is a representative glove with that design.

Below is a Moore & Evans ad from circa 1922. Not sure if these are Thos. Wilson made gloves and mitts. Later catalogs carried Wilson equipment which made sense since both companies were headquartered in Chicago.
