Rawlings Mantle Glove Offer

Postby ohiofraun » October 19th, 2010, 10:49 pm

I have a magazine ad and the glove associated with a Phillies Cigar Mickey Mantle Baseball Special Rawlings Glove. The deal was the mitt could be gotten for $3.39 with 20 Phillies Cigar Bands. The mitt called Big Leaguer has the Mickey Mantle fax signature. I don't see the mitt listed in the Rawlings Catalog. I assume the glove for value purposes would fall under the category Youth Models (Joe Phillip's Vintage Baseball Glove Guide)

Family Field: Mantle with sons Billy and Mickey Jr right. Wonder what glove Mick has. Also a mitt on the ground. Which son is in the Phillies Glove Ad? What would be the year of the ad and also this picture?

Mickey Jr. would have been nine or 10 in this picture? Born in 1953 this would have put it in the early 1960s. That is him in the Phillies cigar ad.
Below his obituary>> (he played only one season in the minors with Alexandria VA, never with the Rangers) and I never saw him batting as a switch hitter.)

Mickey Mantle Jr. Dies of Cancer

DALLAS (AP) - Mickey Mantle Jr. died of cancer Wednesday, five years after
the disease killed his father. He was 47.

Mantle Jr. had been in and out of R.H. Dedman Memorial Hospital since
about August, said Dorothy Weber, a New York lawyer who represents the
family in trademark and licensing.

Mantle Jr. was a switch-hitting center fielder like his Hall of Fame
father but never made it to the majors. He spent several years in the
minors for the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers.
