1923 Goldsmith answer to the 1922 Rawlings Doak

Hugo Goldsmith patented a tunnel loop webbing in 1923 in answer to the Rawlings Bill Doak web patent of 1922.

The 1922 Rawlings patent below

The Rawlings patent called for lacing to run through metal grommets placed on the thumb and forefinger.

Thought this one might be of some interest as it is a Goldsmith with the Rawlings Bill Doak style laced web though the finger grommets. Model is a DW never have seen another like it.

The two grommets on the front side of the forefinger sure look like the "Bill Doak" glove. Don't know what to make of it. I was looking through some other Goldsmith pictures at http://www.baseballglovecollector.com for other anomalies like yours and came across some interesting gloves.

Below is the patent for the Spalding Rainey trap web of 1934. Note how one side is sewn into the forefinger seam and the other side is laced to the thumb

Below is a circa 1940 Joe Vosmik Goldsmith glove with a variation of the "Rainey Trap" and laced on both thumb and forefinger.

Below is a 1940's Joe Cronin Goldsmith with the same web variation and with the added transverse finger seam from the 1938 O'Hara patent. The O'Hara patent was popular among quite a few manufacturers.

Another interesting design was the William Barrett patent of 1924 for George Reach. Note the four different methods of lacing the fingers

Some Goldsmith gloves have elements of this patent. Here is the "Snare " model from the late 1930's. A pretty unique looking glove
