while tracking the sphere
as it travels through space.

Rotating slowly
drifting,floating
at a leisurely pace.

Players and fans watch
holding their breath
as the ball sweetly, gently
nestles in place.

Jaws drop,
Fans faces wrenched forward,
A screaming line drive,
Right over the bag,
Flagged down by Clete Boyer.

Protecting himself?
Was it self-defense?
If not for the glove,
Would the ball hit the fence?
How did he do that?
(As the side is retired),
The Tigers are blanked,
A player admired.
