King Patent

The ellusive "King Patent Lining" introduced on Spalding gloves in 1910 was a clever idea to extend the useful life of a glove by being able to replace a worn inner lining. This particular model, the BB1 World Series Model is a nice example. Some other interesting models and brands are featured at the baseballglovecollector.com website.

The inventor was Charles King, assignor to A.G. Spalding, with a patent date of 1910

Before the King Patent, J.A. Peach on Gloversville, NY> patented a similar design in 1905 with the same purpose of replacing a worn inner lining in a glove.

Very interesting. I take it that the Peach gloves are very rare. Wonder if one of this style has ever surfaced?

Cool glove. I think that style is found at JD's website under early gloves category. Unknown owner. Very cool one.

I think Peach Co. was in business for about 20 years starting in 1899. Not a long time for sure. I have never heard of one surfacing.

This has to be the one that stockbuddy mentioned (good eye, Dave! And thanks for the heads up.) Peach or not, it is very cool indeed. JD also has pictures of a Peach glove and an ad for one in his one inch web section. Hope he doesn't mind that I'm posting this. There was a discussion of Peach Co. on the Net54 Forum a while ago and one fortunate collector posted this stunning ad piece. All I know is that I've never seen a Peach glove for sale anywhere.

Isn't that the coolest glove. You know that would be one for the book, but I don't own it and sure wish I did. LOL

I think Mike has found the patent on this one or one very similar. Mikes thanks for sharing.

thanks to okdoak for finding that peach glove on Jim Daniels Website. Would that be baseballglovecollector.com? The glove is a real beauty. To Dave, That white Spalding BB1 King patent came my way from Wayne Curley in Maine years ago. Wayne is a great guy. I sold everything and kept a few nice gloves, that being one.
