San Antonio Box Gloves

I would bet money that these glove in this ebay auction from San Antonio came originally from the Potchernik's Sporting Goods. In the 1990s sometime, we tracked some gloves, most in boxes and we bought 21 of them from the 1950s. I believe that John Graham and I were in on the deal. This came from an employee of Potchernik's (supposedly the second oldest sporting goods store in the country at that time). The gloves and boxes arrived and including was a Mantle MMP. Also, there was a Bob Skinner Rawlings in a Rawlings box with wax paper inside. The trapper mitt, probably from the combination of glovolium sprayed on the glove and the wax paper and sealed inside, has turned black and crispy as toast. I called to send it back only to learn from the operator that the phone was no longer a working number.

I fondly remember this sporting goods store and another in the downtown area called Wright (sp?). Nice find.

Sad to see these fade away as they have. Many a back to school shopping happened there for tube socks and shoes (I recall purchasing many shoe laces there...if that doesn't date me, I'm not sure what will).
