Glove Collecting in 2010

Postby vintagebrett » January 6th, 2010, 2:29 pm

A new year brings new hopes and goals for each and every one of us in all facets of our life. Glove collecting is no different. There are some things I'm really excited about this year and I'd like to share a couple:

1) Back in September I was contacted by an author who was writing a book about the players from the T206 set. He was looking for equipment to be used in pictures for the cover and beginning of each chapter. After we talked a while and found out that the photographer they were using was 15 minutes from my house, I decided to let them use my equipment for the book. The photographer was super nice and let me participate in picking out the right items and talking about how they should be pictured. Thanks to rickybulldog for letting me borrow a jersey - it made the front cover! I've had some of the pictures for a while but due to copyright laws, I can't post them. However, they do look fantastic and the book is scheduled to come out sometime in April. This book is going to get a lot of publicity based on the number of preorder copies and the locations it is going to be featured (Hall of Fame, Smithsonian, national book store chains). There will be a link to my website inside and hopefully the card collectors who read this will be intrigued with the equipment and join our growing hobby. If you'd like a sneak peak at the book check out their website at http://t206players.com

2) The National 2010 - Baltimore, MD. I've been to quite a few Nationals as a collector but this year Number9 and I are jumping off the deep end and setting up as dealers. There seems to be a lot of interest in the National this year because it's a new location. So far, I know quite a few collectors will be joining us there - ebbets55, BigD Moonlight, crackofthebat, Mr. Mitt and hopefully many others. The Orioles are in town (first playing the Angels, then the White Sox) the entire time the convention is going on so I'm hoping maybe we could all check out a game together. If we have enough people, I'd be happy to look into getting group tickets so we could all sit together. This would be a great outing with fellow collectors! Our goal at the National not only is to sell a few things but also promote our hobby - we'd love to see you come out and participate. The National runs August 4th to August 8th this summer. Check out http://www.nsccshow.com/ for more information.

3) Spring Northeast Glove Collector Get Together - I'm planning another gathering of Northeast glove collectors sometime this spring. Still trying to nail down a firm date but will post when that is settled - all glove collectors are welcome.

All of that sounds terrific, especially the more local Nat'l and Northeast Glovers get together...keep us posted, you might just see us at both!

Great future for us thanks to you Brett! Looking forward to the super sounding book and I'll bet you have a blast at the Balt. Natl.
Keep the glove flame glowing! Thanks for all that you've done!
I'm gonna finish the Nocona glove history book early this year.

Brett, that sounds like a very cool project. Hopefully that will bring more into our glove collecting hobby. Joe, good luck with your Nocona book. I too am doing another book on the old ball gloves and hope to have it available this year. It would be nice to get some more momentum going for the glove hobby.

Good job to Brett and Ricky on the equipment for this T206 book. Cool!

Just wanted to let you guys know that the t206 book has been released and is available for immediate purchase. I got my copy a couple weeks ago and have been enjoying it tremendously. There are short 1 paragraph bios on each of the players in the set. The pictures of the equipment are at the beginning of each chapter - the photographer did an excellent job. My brother mentioned that if you are looking to name a baby, throw out the baby name books and get this one instead.

You can find more information about the book at http://t206players.com - I had the opportunity to meet the author for the first time today and he said sales are great and they are getting good feedback on the book.

I picked up a copy from Amazon last week and it is a really enjoyable book. Amazing pictures of your gloves, bats, and memorabilia! :)
