I was 10 or 11, about 1979, while walking to grandma's house where I worked for dad's business, I stopped off at McCausland's Market. This old man, a really great guy who walked like Igor from Frankenstein, would sell insurance on one side of the shop and on the other sold candy, baseball card & soda pop, among other useful odd items to adults. Kids would go in all the time after school and rip the guy off and he was always on guard, eventually getting to the point where he would guard the door and let only the kids in he trusted. I went into this store religiously and bought baseball cards. One day he was out of cards and we started talking, asking me what else I may want to buy and I asked him do you have anything baseball related? and he went down to the bottom shelf and dug for a bit and out of no where come 3 very old gloves that I never had seen anything like in my life. He asked if I was interested in purchasing the gloves. After he spoke $1 for this one and $2 for this one and $2 for this one.... I had the $5 to snag all 3 gloves. I only had them for a couple years, I took them out to play sandlot with and eventually, they were borrowed or simply disappeared, I'm not exactly sure of the models but after seeing a lot of gloves now, I would say they were in the 20's and 30's,but the names on the gloves were unforgettable. Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner.

hi! Thanks!

I know!!

Well... I guess if there is a lesson to be learned,(well, too late for most of us here probably) but to the younger ones listening, it would be smart to listen to your parents when they tell you to not bring more than 1 glove out to play!

The only thing is, in the neighborhood I grew up in, a lot of kids didn't have gloves and it meant the difference between having a game. Pickle's great but nothing like full teams.
:D
