What is your "Holy Grail" of gloves ?

Postby doubleplay64 » June 8th, 2009, 10:41 pm

I'd love to hear what you consider to be the "Holy Grail " of gloves. Not so much in collecting circles but maybe your own personal preference. Maybe a mint Ken Wel Gehrig or a Tris Speaker ? I think a Cobb in mint condition would be my choice with a Gehrig running a close second.
I often think that somewhere out there there is that glove in it's original box unopened,in someones attic just waiting to be discovered. I hope I'm the first one there !!!
I'd walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play baseball."

My list of Grailers seems to change from week to week (usually right after looking through JD's website), but I'll put a 1920s Ken-Wel Bucky Harris (or Edd Roush, Babe Pinelli, etc) at the top. Love the look of those gloves with that great seam pattern on the back. A Stall and Dean G.C. Alexander or Goldsmith Honus Wagner would do nicely, also. Or how about an undiscovered maker's Joe Jackson sewn web under a pile of 70s gloves at my local antique mall? Hey, throw in that original box and I'll take it! :)

Don't know if it exists but for me it would be a Bean Bros. glove in the original box. Also, any 1900 to 1930 Connecticut manufacturer with box.

I'd love to find a paired set consisting of a fingerless and a tippedfinger, unused of course, in a box depicting the gloves. I'm not picky, I'll take Spalding or Reach.

Hi DP! LOVE THE MAYS! And the others! Feels GREAT on the hand and awesome to play catch with! One of my faves! But Of all the gloves I've collected so far, I would have to say i like my Stan Musial PM6 the best. The original A2000 isn't far behind for me. I would go out on the field with the Mays G25 or even a PPM but people look at me weird with gloves that are obviously(by appearance) outdated. The musial, they can't tell so I can get away with it. I like to use the gloves. Wouldn't mind hooking up with a nice KenWel Gehrig though! That would feel pretty awesome I'm sure.
