eBay Scam?

Postby Centerfield » April 30th, 2009, 9:59 pm

Two questionable items were listed on eBay this evening. They are real items, but the seller has no feedback and the photos came directly from Hunt Auction archives. The first is a very nice Draper Glove Shop sign and the second is a Thayer mask. Possible that he owns them both, but there's something fishy to me about both of these auctions. Why a new user name instead of an established one? Why not take new photos instead of reusing the Hunt pics? I'd sure love to have that sign, but I'm not going to touch it with a ten-foot pole.

I think the best thing to do would be to email the seller and see if you could get some additional pictures of the item. If you get them, then I would feel more comfortable about placing a bid. If you get a story about how my digital camera doesn't work or they can't take pictures, I'd stick to the 10 foot pole. :)

I see the opening was raised today to $15,000.

The Thayer Mask minimum bid was also doubled from $3,000 to $6,000, and of course it failed to sell. If I recall, it sold for around $2,500 in Hunt's a few years back.
