Happiness is an old ball glove

Postby softball66 » December 2nd, 2008, 6:27 pm

I just sold on eBay what many would consider a routine, rather non-descript Elston Howard DB45 catchers mitt. Nothing special about it or was it??
The buyer just emailed me that he still has his glove he had as a kid and when he would play catch with a friend, the friend used this Elston Howard catchers mitt and he always wanted one.
So this is a very special mitt for him and to be able to provide him with a life-long wish, it became very special to me also. I hardly made any money on the sale, but that became less important for what it meant to the person it is going to.
We get caught up often times with older, expensive gloves or bright and shiny new ones and often lose sight of how meaningful a glove or a mitt can be to someone to return to their childhood memories.
A Nice Christmas present for himself!

Great post! I surely know how that guy feels about his acquisition. I've experienced something very similar. And I can feel your gratification as well. This is what I like about the 'bay. It's an outlet that can make long time dreams a reality. :)

That is really what this sport is all about. What a great story.

A really nice story Joe. Makes me wish I still had my Rawling LB 15.
