The Wilson A2001, info wanted

Postby oldreliable » April 2nd, 2008, 11:53 am

Hi guys,

I've seen a few Wilson A2001 gloves out there but not nearly as many as their A2000 brethren.

From what I've been told, the A2001 was a smaller version of the A2000 for infielders, etc. Is this correct?

Whatever happened to the A2001? Was the A2000 L its successor? They seem fairly similar in size.

They look like they were sweet little gloves!

Thanks,

John

The A2000 was in the catalog in 1957 or 58...The A2001 was in the 1960 catalog, and is a little smaller...I think the A2001 ended in 1970...Than the A2000 became the XL and the smaller version was the A2000L....Both were about the same price...

Thank you for your reply, jwoody.

Was it 1970 when the A2000 and A2001 became the A2000 XL and A2000 L?

I have an A2000 and always wonder what its exact year of manufacture was. I'd like to at least know what its last possible year of manufacture could be.

Back to the A2001, did it have MLB endorsers? Did Nellie Fox endorse this one in advertisements? Any A2001 info is appreciated.

Thanks,

John

A2000 Dates

Someone on this forum has information on Earl Malone. He is an ex-Wilson employee that knows everything about these gloves. He restores A2000's now and I have him fix one of mine. He is an amazing craftsman and is very knowledgeable about dates, patterns etc...I unfortunately do not have his contact info anymore and frankly do not know if he is the type to take calls.

Someone on the forum knows him though. Are you reading this?

Earl Malone

In my opinion, he is knowledgeable, qualified and interested in repairing your glove.
To a lesser extent, he is interested in answering unending questions.

A gentleman and a valuable resource.

That's right. He is a gentleman and a great craftsman but I do not think he would like to receive a bunch of calls from guys like us. Wish he were on the forum.
