Old style HOH what do you think?

Postby docglov » February 7th, 2008, 10:32 am

I have argued the point with management that we could sell old style patterns from original patterns to the public who were knowledgable about quality gloves. I have a semi approval to some Like the Pro 12 TC, Pro 6Xtc with old "I" web, Pro 1000 and XPG-5-s (jeter with a solid web) 11". The draw back is it worth 300 bucks each. Only want feed back and ideas from this forum for now thanks

I think you could ...

Postby Cowboy7130 » February 7th, 2008, 11:16 am

I think that would be great! Since they are selling on ebay for hundreds of dollars, why not new ones? Personally, I would love a HOH Wingback, singlepost web in tan with grey welting ...

A thought ... would the pattern that Brooks Robinson used most often have a Brooks Robinson endorsement in the palm? That might make them even more attractive to collectors. Just my 2 cents worth
Yes, I still have my first glove.

Bob, I think it's a feasible idea. We sold over a thousand Nokona remakes when we were up and running but at about $150 to $175 which, at $300 makes it a little stout. I remember when Wilson put out the remake (USAs) Wilson A2000 in the year 2000 as a commemorative. Wasn't for public sale, I understand, but these have been in demand. The gloves you listed are some classics and I think there would be a modest demand.

I think if it's a quality product, people are going to buy it. Some of the prices realized for vintage 1970's, 80's and even 90's USA made Rawlings are crazy.

hey doc, i would be willing to bet that if you put a Made in USA stamp back in the palm, it would sell like hot cakes (assuming that it is MIU) could you still make it for $300?

is it even possible to get black horse horween leather anymore?

I think it would be a great idea. Don Morton seems to be trying to resurrect these old models (not made in the USA) as I think he gets to sell exclusives through his website. I'm all for the quality product. Smaller sizes are also a great idea they always seem to get overlooked. I'm a fan of tan and grey welting so the idea has my vote. Some of the changes that rawlings has done to there gloves has been a real let down in my opinion. Hopefully they could go back to a more traditional style. Even though if you compare rawlings with other companies (in regards to modern day gloves) they are the closest to traditional.

I own a few of the Morton gloves and really like them. They're well built and seem to be better quality than retail HOHs. I'm a big fan of the Rawlings 6X series so I'm thrilled they released the old 6XBC patern. Gettin spring fever 8)

Bob
I think it is a great idea! I just love the old school HOH gloves and would love to get my hands on one (or two) even at $300. Hope you are able to pull this off. Keep us up to date if this happens. Thanks.

I really love this idea, and am sure you would not have any problems selling them as long as they say USA.
Also it was brought up on this forum last year that Rawlings was going to do a remake of the old HH model and a few others. Any progress made on that?

BC,
I totally agree. I have been asking my local Rawlings sales reps about this for years. Actually, just asked one this week. I would love to see these patterns resurrected and Made in USA. 12TC, 1000, Wingtips and 6XTC would be a great start. I still wonder why they ever closed the Ava plant. As long as the Made in USA label is in the palm, I think you would sell a ton of these gloves.

When it comes to leather I don't know if Rawlings would get there horween leather from Chicago. I believe the factory is still open it's not to far from where I live.

yes the leather will come from Chicago. It will be Horween as it has been for the last 40 years. I think I'm really close to being able to approval on this. What I need now is to get you guys to list say your top 3 old style models and I will take the top 3 or 4 and make samples and post them on this site I will use what ever leather that the original was from, I still acess to all of it. lets get some help here!!!
Thanks
