Interesting JM Waterston glove (inside a Marathon?)

Postby Studboy » December 24th, 2007, 12:43 am

Brought a bunch of gloves home over Thanksgiving that had been at my Mom & Dad's since I moved 7 years ago (cheep storage unit) I finally got a chance to get through some boxes this weekend. Found an interesting glove that I thought one of you master glovers could give me some info on. I't an old 1 1/2 inch web glove with what appears to be a faint Marathon shield on the front. What is cool is the inside palm is blown out & there is a strip of 4 or 5 uncut silk tags from J.M. Waterston Sporting Goods on the inside of the gloves heel. The tags read:

J.M. Waterston Sporting Goods
77 Woodward Ave.
Detroit

My question is was this common to place the tags inside? I assume this what made by Marathon for the JM Waterston Co, if so what years did this company make gloves? Any info would be great!

Here are a coupel quick pix (the last you can see the tags peaking out the bottom):
