Hi Guys,

I am going to try and repost my previous post. Hope this post works works. I like the various thoughts shared on why glove collecting. Each poster has made some very interesting and excellent points about our hobby. Brett maybe something to consider for the National show. Perhaps a poster that says "Why not collect gloves. Try em, you'll Like em. :D Along with the poster to catch some attention (yes, the pun was intended) perhaps a brief listing of some suggestions from our thread. They all seem appropriate and hit the nail on the head about our great hobby. Good clean fun and some gloves seem to have both rarity and value. All the various ways people have mentioned abut collecting gloves just enriches the interest in this hobby.

People collect all types of stuff so "Why Not Collect Gloves, try em you'll like em".

Wish I could go to the Nationals and meet a lot of you in person but that is just not possible this year. You that are going have a great time.

Dave, got the perfect song to go with your slogan - this is from my son's favorite show:

I will definitely have some handouts/signage/etc. at the National promoting gloves. I'm hoping the 100 or more gloves in the booth will help as well. It will be awesome to have a bunch of collectors stop by - if our booth looks busy then more people will stop in. Nothing attracts a crowd, like a crowd!

Hey Brett,

That is funny. LOL You know my nearly 2 year old daughter had me watching that Gabba Gabba this weekend. They nailed it with Try it you'll like it. I hope you have great success at the Nationals this year.

At the risk of echoing what others have said, I have always been a collecton of things but never has anything else been able to take me back to that era as much as an old baseball glove. The fact that they have seemingly taken an evolutionary step nearly every decade provides that direct link to the past which I think is unrivaled, with the possible exception of football helmets.

They are also three dimensional so they display wonderfully, but they are also very functional which is what truly separates them from anything else (and sealed my fate). While nice baseball cards are shielded in plastic, baseball gloves are meant to be put on and taken out for a game of catch. Playing catch takes us back to our youth which is great, but strapping on a 10s full web or 40s fat splinger takes us back to our father's and grandfather's youths, and to eras where the game was played differently. Old helmets, bats, cleats, and masks all look great but taking them out for a test drive just doesn't compare at all.

Another thing I really like about glove collecting is that there isn't the huge emphasis on mint. Sure there is usually a premium for mint/unused, but most advanced collectors I know have just as much of a bond -- or more -- with gloves that have been broken-in perfectly for their hand and have seen real game use. We even usually have poor condition "beaters" that we proudly display next to our good ones because they tell such a historical story (and usually get as many wows). That cheaper entry point in collecting really helps get people started.

It's been resurrected after a long absence - I don't know why I keep humiliating myself but here you go. Thanks for your input - I didn't use everything but I wanted to get people to come here.

Neat video, Brett. Nice job of summing it all up. Made me want to grab my favorite glove and play catch. :)
