Progress report on the glove re-lining

Postby Deacon » February 8th, 2009, 3:52 pm

before & after photos of the re-lining process - not yet complete, but I wanted to share the progress

I bought the glove without any lining and the new lining was removed from a vintage glove

I think it's looking great so far.

Can't wait to get the finished product back on my hand.

relined gloves

Postby okdoak » February 10th, 2009, 2:15 pm

Looks great, Deacon! I relined a Bill Doak Model H last year and found that working with the old brittle piping was the worst part. Will post a picture sometime. Nice job on your glove!

I wish I could take credit for the relining, but forum member Number 9. William Peebles, did the job. Once I get it back I'll post the final product.
Look forward to seeing photos of yours.

Deacon, thats a great job on your KP.! I remember seeing your glove on ebay and wondered where one would ever find a liner to put in it. Are all the eyelets in the liner in place?

Here's pictures of my latest project. I had just relined and repiped this Stall & Dean.

Does anyone know how to reduce the size of these pictures?

cubsrno1...that Stall & Dean looks great.

William did an outstanding job on the KP. I provided him with a "donor" glove, an old $3 yard sale find. It turned out where the liner on the donor glove was a little narrower in width so he added a filler piece of leather and grommets to line up with the KP. It matches up terrific.

Looking through JD's catalog library, I believe it to be a 1920 Spalding Minor League model 2W.

I wonder if that makes it "rare"?

relined bill doak

Postby okdoak » February 14th, 2009, 12:32 am

After seeing how nice your relined gloves turned out, I'm thinking about trying it on this vintage Wilson.

I relined this Bill Doak last year. The piping was pretty brittle and chipped in a few spots. I dislike that part the most!

As for resizing pictures, if you use Photobucket they give you the option to do that (at the top of the page, I think.)

I found that trying to save the piping is most consuming given their delicate condition. Just make sure your blade is sharp and have patience! Okdoak, your Wilson should turn nicely.

Number 9 ... as I expressed earlier, I couldn't be happier with the entire transaction. thanks again

On a similar vein, I'd just like to comment on my experiences in general with forum members. I've had a number of transactions, whether a sale, a purchase, a trade or as in Number 9's case, sending a glove with money for repair.
All have been a positive experience. Descriptions have been accurate, shipping timely, shipping costs fair, promises keep...it's been great.

A pleasure dealing with a group like this.

thanks & hope to continue for a long time to come.

As promised (a little late, but I've been busy), here is a picture of my relined (Lee Majored) buckle back full web. I can't take the credit on this bad boy. This was all done by my glove doctor Joel Tobillo.

Joel, do you make house calls?

Look for the silver lining

Postby softball66 » March 21st, 2009, 3:17 pm

I sent two gloves off this past week for re-linings and a little binding work, one to the Sports Doctor in New Jersey, long time friend, and the other
a Rawlngs trapper to Kenny J. in Ava. Both finished products will enhance
the mitts beyond the costs.
